Last month I was asked by The Walleye to photograph a few different breakfast dishes at various restaurants in Thunder Bay, for the upcoming breakfast issue, which is out now! I jumped at the chance, for a few reasons. The first being that I love photographing food, and second, it gave me a chance to try out some dishes I haven't had the chance to yet.

When I was asked to photograph the Celebration Dinner for The Indigenous Peoples' Court, I was first honoured to be chosen to capture it, but also excited to be a part of it as well. All in all, I would estimate that there were about 150 people there. Don't quote me on that though. It was such a great turnout and there were a lot of special speakers attending as well.

Last night, Daytona's in Thunder Bay, hosted Yo Chef! Round 4. It's a wonderful event that essentially pits some of Thunder Bays' best chefs against one another, by preparing dishes for a select panel of local judges. As I mentioned above, it took place at Daytona's, just like the previous events, and it as an absolute packed house. That's the important part too because the all the proceeds go towards Our Kids Count of Thunder Bay.

The Rockhouse once again played host to a band from my childhood. Big Wreck rolled through town this past Tuesday along with Ascot Royals. I was in attendance, along with my wife Anne, to photograph the performances for The Walleye. Surprisingly, this was the first time I had the chance to see Big Wreck live, so I was quite excited to hear some of their new work and of course, some of their classics.

I recently had the opportunity, and honour, of photographing an important event here in Thunder Bay. When I was asked to cover the Grand Reopening of the Veterans Affairs Office at 130 Syndicate Avenue South. Seeing as how a great article was already written on the subject by TBNewsWatch, I will just supply their link below. For those interested in photos of the even, please feel free to scroll down.

Even though winter is here to stay, I managed to get squeeze in a family session with Laura and her family just before the snowfall and before it got too cold. Because the weather was cooperating, we started the session outside in their backyard as well as the side alley. When possible, I always try and get as many outdoor portraits as possible, but we also decided to get some indoor one as well, especially since Laura and her family had such a beautiful home.

My last wedding of the season was actually the most interesting one of the year. It was a surprise wedding! Yup, my first ever surprise wedding. Usually when I shoot them, everyone actually knows exactly what is going on. In this case, Jennifer invited about 25 of her closest friends and family over, for what they thought, was going to be family portraits. Admittedly, I was a tiny bit nervous because I only had an hour and half to work with and I wanted to make sure I came away with a lot of great moments. Well, it couldn't have gone any better, as the photos turned out great.

I'm quite excited to post my first real product session. I have done quite a few in the past but I didn't really bother including them on this website, but as I do more, I'll make sure to starting sharing them. I thought it was fitting that the first product session I posted was for Sisters Chocolate, which is actually owned by Tammy Baxter, who's wedding I actually photographed not too long ago. So when she contacted me out of the blue, asking if I was interested in photographing some of her wonderful, handmade truffles, I knew I had to do it.

This past Saturday ended up being a pretty busy day for photography as I ended up having two photo assignments. One was a surprise wedding which I will be posting shortly, and the other was a Christmas party for ONWA, which is what I am showcasing here in this post. Anne an I were invited to the party to enjoy some dinner and entertainment but just as I was finishing my small wedding ceremony that evening, I was asked to photograph some of the Christmas Party too. Well, I already had my camera gear and I had already done countless photo shoots for ONWA in the past so it was kind of no brainer.

Jesalynn and Chris celebrated their wedding just under a month ago and I was lucky enough to be chosen to photograph it. My day started at the Lakehead Unitarian Fellowship Church which is where the ceremony took place. It's a very small church but it was the perfect venue for an intimate wedding. It was a also a great place to photograph a ceremony because it had huge a lot of windows that let in a ton of natural light, which made for some good dramatic shots.

I will be photographing Danielle and Steven's wedding next year but we decided before it got to cold out, we had better get their engagement photos done. We did so this past weekend and the weather turned out to be pretty cool. The location was Centennial Park and upon arrival, Danielle looked at me and seemed just a bit hesitant, not completely sure if we should still do the photos. Mainly because it was starting to snow pretty heavy. Well, I assured her that the photos would turn out fine and the snow would only add to the character, which it definitely did, as you can see from the photos below.

My first portrait session this past weekend just goes to show that even though it's winter, it shouldn't stop you from getting outside with your family and getting some photos done. That's exactly what I did with Darla and her family, and the results were awesome. The occasion was actually a special one, in that it was her mom's 60th birthday. I couldn't think of a better reason to get the whole family together for some portraits.
