I had the pleasure of photographing some amazing work by local artist - Justine Gustafson. After learning that she would be receiving the Ontario Arts Foundation Elizabeth L. Gordon Art Program Acquisition Grant for her original shoulder bag inspired by the artists powerful connection to water, she asked me to come by her studio and photograph some of the process.
I had the pleasure of photographing some amazing work by local artist - Justine Gustafson. After learning that she would be receiving the Ontario Arts Foundation Elizabeth L. Any time I get to take photos of Helen’s amazing work, it’s just an amazing experience. Her Winter Birch Bark vest, Migisi Doodem top Hat, Migisi Doodem chocker and medallion and floral arm cuffs are all going to be part of her upcoming exhibition at the Aunt Collective in Victoria, British Columbia.
Any time I get to take photos of Helen’s amazing work, it’s just an amazing experience. It’s always amazing meeting local artists and photographing their work. Case in point, Fawn Meshake asked me to photograph her Tikinagon inspired backpacks which should would be selling at an upcoming fashion show in the US. The skill and attention to details was simply superb.

Once again I got the opportunity to photograph one of Helen Pelletier’s birch bark pieces. This one is called ‘Dagwagani Mawandochige’, which means fall gathering. It’s a winter birch bark 30-30 rifle holder. I say this every time, but it’s probably her best work to date.
