Jake + Abi Engagement - Mission Island Marsh

It’s always fun doing a true engagement session. Knowing Jake was going to propose to Abi near the end of the session was exciting for me, and she of course said yes!

Cassandra + Dustin Engagement - Cascades

I’m very much looking forward to Cassandra and Dustin’s wedding next fall. Luckily they decided to do an engagement session today, at the always beautiful Cascades. The weather held up and it ended up being the perfect session.

Kihannah + Alisha Engagement – Tree Farm

One of my favourite types of photo sessions, definitely has to be engagements. There is just a certain feeling of excitement in the air each time, similar to weddings. Kihannah and Alisha chose to do theirs at the Tree Farm. Unlike a family session I had a couple months earlier, this time around the mosquitos were nowhere to be found.

Overall it was a pretty relaxed session up until the last 5 minutes or so. Alisha decided to surprise Kihannah with a couple bottles of champagne. Suffice it to say, the last few photos were quite chaotic, which resulted in some truly memorable moments and reactions!

Barbara + Darren Engagement Session - Katherine Cove + Agawa Rock

With Barbara and Darren’s wedding fast approaching next month, they wanted to do an engagement session in the area of their wedding. It just so happens to be around Katherine Cove, which is exactly where we did their session, along with Awaga Rock. Anyone familiar with Thunder Bay, knows that it’s about a 6 hour drive.

It just so happens to be around Katherine Cove, which is exactly where we did their session, along with Awaga Rock. Anyone familiar with Thunder Bay, knows that it’s about a 6 hour drive.

So my wife Anne, our new puppy Lucy and I left the day before and made a little mini road trip out of it. It gave us a chance to sight see a little along the way too.

Back to Barbara and Darren … we started the session at Katherine Cove. They both were quite fearless climbing and navigating the rocks to set up for some very fun and candid photos. Everyone of course stayed very safe, and it was a dry day, so none of the rocks were slippery.

After spending about 45 minutes there, we drove about 10 minutes east to Agawa Rock. If you haven’t been, make sure you go. I’m still amazed at all the hidden gems in Ontario, this is probably top of the list.

As you can see from the photos, we ended up with some epic photos. I simply can’t wait until the wedding the next month!

Lastly, I couldn’t help but get at least a little bit of video during the session. It’s more in the style of behind the scenes, but I also included some of my favourite photos too.

Kaylin + Adam Engagement - Trowbridge Falls

Kaylin and Adam are getting married next year but I was lucky enough to get them out for an engagement session this past weekend at Trowbridge Falls. I absolutely love meeting couples, and especially photographing them, before their actual wedding.

The weather was perfect, and even though they were both a bit nervous about being photographed, both Kaylin and Adam were complete naturals. I can’t wait until the wedding!

Precious + Anthony Engagement - Centennial Park

Precious and Anthony’s wedding is at the end of the month, which I am so excited for. The booked me relatively last minute, so I was really happy when they also had the time to do an engagement session. They were extremely natural in front of the camera which only gets me more excited for their wedding day. Plus, I got to meet their daughter, Cedar, who was the star of the show at the end of the session.

Caitlynn + Eric Engagement - Trow Bridge Falls

Caitlynn and Eric have their wedding set for next year, but they decided to do an engagement session at Trow Bridge Falls. I don’t always get to meet wedding couples before their wedding, so I was super excited to not only meet Caitlynn + Eric, but also spend some time getting to know them and capture some photos in the process.

Aside from the mosquitoes, it was a beautiful and extremely fun session. It just made me even more excited for their wedding day. :)

Alanah + Brenden + Gus Engagement Session - Centennial Park

I really do love engagement sessions. Not only are they fun, but they give me a good opportunity to actually meet the couple, and develop a relationship with them, before the wedding! This is actually a pretty rare occurrence these days.

I’m so thankful Alanah and Brenden decided to bring Gus along for their session too. I always tell couples and families that pets are always welcome. My only problem is not focusing too much on peoples pets!

If this session was any indication of how the wedding day is going to be, I simply can’t wait. Alanah and Brenden were so natural and spontaneous in front of the camera. Oh, and Centennial Park was in full Fall mode, which made for great colours.

Sara + Eric Engagement Session - Centennial Park

Sara and Eric came to visit family for the holidays and, while they were here, asked me to shoot their engagement photos. I always love when wedding couples of mine decide to to do engagement sessions. It helps break the ice a bit and get everyone comfortable with one another. Plus, I very much enjoy getting out in the winter and photographing beautiful couples.

We decided to do it at Centennial Park, which in my mind, is probably one of the nicest winter spots to do portraits. There was quite a bit of snow on the ground and the weather wasn’t too cold. As always, I like to keep these kind of winters sessions moving, yet not rushed. That helps everyone stay warm.

Both Sara and Eric were complete naturals in front of the camera. I’m already looking forward to their wedding in 2021!

Devin + Mitchell Engagement - Tree Farm

The snow has not yet come, but I know it’s only a matter of time. I’m happy for that because it allowed me to have a relatively warm engagement session at the Tree Farm with Devin and Mitchell. Of course they brought their two dogs Ruger and Callie. I have done many sessions at the Tree Farm and I just love it when couples and families bring their dogs with them. It just adds a totally different dynamic to the session.

The Tree Farm is just the perfect spot to do portraits. It was a very casual session. We simply walked and stopped in spots along the way. It made for very natural photos. It also helped that Devin and Mitchell were great in front of the camera.

I get to shoot their wedding next year and I simply can’t wait!

Josie + Dan Engagement - Tree Farm

Next month I have the pleasure of photographing Josie and Dan's Wedding but in the meantime, we got out and did their engagement session at the Tree Farm. I've said it many posts before this, but it is by far one of the prettiest locations in town. When you combine that with an amazing couple, you are pretty much guaranteed beautiful photos. That is exactly what we came away with. It also helped that they brought along their dog 'Buddy'. I just love photographing animals, especially dogs.

It was an hour session but we got a lot accomplished in that time. As with most of my sessions, it's just casual and natural. It was as if we were just going for a walk together and stopping along the way to take some photos. I of course directed Josie and Dan a bit, but otherwise I just let them interact which made things a bit more candid.

In the end, this session just made me that much more excited for the wedding next month. Be sure to check back in the coming months to see how those photos turned out!

Jessica + Liam Engagement - Mission Marsh

Jessica and Liam's wedding isn't until next year but that doesn't mean we couldn't do an engagement session this summer, which is exactly what we did! The day before our shoot, Jessica decided they wanted to use Mission Marsh as the location instead of Centennial Park, and I couldn't have been happier. There is nothing wrong with Centennial Park but I have already had a few sessions this year over the past few weeks, so a new location was more then welcome.

The day before our shoot, Jessica decided they wanted to use Mission Marsh as the location instead of Centennial Park, and I couldn't have been happier. There is nothing wrong with Centennial Park but I have already had a few sessions this year over the past few weeks, so a new location was more then welcome.

As first, both Jessica and Liam were a bit nervous for the shoot but that quickly went away and they ended up being complete naturals in front of the camera. They took my direction well and were more then capable of doing their own thing as well, which provided a healthy dose of candid photography.

It helped that the weather held up and Mission Marsh is one of my favourite locations in town for portraits. It's a relatively small area but there are a lot of great spots to use if you know where to look.

Jessica and Liam also agreed to let me know film a little bit of video of them as well. This is new for me and something I have spend the last couple months developing my skills in. I didn't want to take up much of their time but we did set aside about 20 minutes at the end of the session. You can view that video below by click on the link. I really hope to do a lot more of these short cinematic videos in the near future. So stay tuned for that!

Thanks as always to Jessica and Liam for a very fun and intimate engagement session. I just love how the photos turned out.
