Lisa + Claudio Pre Wedding Celebration

Lisa and Claudio were supposed to get married this past weekend, but because of what is going on, it had to be pushed back until May. Well, that didn’t stop Lisa from still doing something special this weekend, which is exactly what she did. The result, I very small and intimate together with her closest friends. Seeing as how I’m her wedding photographer, she asked if I was interested in capturing an hour or so of the small celebration. I of course said yes!

It was Lisa, Claudio and her bridesmaid in Lisa and Claudio’s beautiful backyard. There was champagne, decorations and of course wine and snacks. Over the course of an hour, a few of her closer friends dropped by to say hello.

It goes without saying, that both Lisa and Claudio got completely dressed up, which made for such amazing photos. She reminded me that I haven’t seen nothing yet, and that the wedding would be even better. I can’t wait for it to arrive, because I know it will be truly epic.

Being able to photograph Lisa and Claudio this past weekend felt so good. It hasn’t been the busiest year with clients so I’m very excited to have some sort of wedding and portrait season this summer. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come!

Canada's 150th Birthday - Thunder Bay Marina

Canada turned 150 yesterday which means I knew I had to go downtown at some point and see some of the festivities and people. The original plan was to go to Old Fort William first and then the marina, but the day just went by so fast that I only made caught the last couple hours of the day. So, with that being said, I tried to get as many photos as I could.

I arrived down at the marina with my friend Stan, for around 8:30. The good thing about that time of day is that the lighting was really nice, which is a always a good thing when taking photos, especially portraits of people.

There was a lot of people there watching musical performances and dancing, waiting in line for food from all the fantastic vendors and of course everyone else just enjoying the good weather and significance of the day. Its was a photographers' dream as a lot of people were dressed up, wearing face paint, and overall just decked out in Canada themed attire.

I did get some candid photos but I also approached a lot of people and simply asked if I could take their portrait. I think only a few people said 'no', in which case I just said 'thank you', and moved on to the next person. I didn't stay for the fireworks because it had already been a very long day and my main goal was to capture more of the people then the actual fireworks themselves.

Even though I only had a couple hours to work with, I'm happy with what I was able to capture. I also met and spoke with some very friendly people throughout the night. I'm glad I was able to be a part of Canada's 150th birthday.

Indigenous Peoples' Court - Community Celebration Dinner

When I was asked to photograph the Celebration Dinner for The Indigenous Peoples' Court, I was first honoured to be chosen to capture it, but also excited to be a part of it as well. All in all, I would estimate that there were about 150 people there. Don't quote me on that though. It was such a great turnout and there were a lot of special speakers attending as well.

All in all, I would estimate that there were about 150 people there. Don't quote me on that though. It was such a great turnout and there were a lot of special speakers attending as well.

The evening started with an opening prayer and song. I was given permission to photograph the drum ceremony which isn't always the case. So that was a nice surprise and I actually came away with some really good shots. Following that, the MC for the evening, Sandi Boucher, explained how the evening was going to unfold.

Soon after that, there were a few welcoming remarks, followed by an overview from the IPC Coordinator, Frances Wesley. Everyone then took part in a wonderful buffet dinner. The food was really quite good. Once people had a chance to eat, it was then time to cut the cake which I made sure to get a photo of when I first arrived. The rest of the ceremony had a variety of important speakers saying some words to the guests.

At the end of the night, the last order of business was the presentation of a few different gifts. One was to the Regional Senior Justice Elder, another was to Justice Joyce Pelletier and the last one was presented to the IPC Committee.

After everyone received their gifts, the night was closed with a prayer and then another song. All in all it was a wonderful evening, and one that I was proud to be a part of.
