Indigenous Peoples' Court - Community Celebration Dinner
When I was asked to photograph the Celebration Dinner for The Indigenous Peoples' Court, I was first honoured to be chosen to capture it, but also excited to be a part of it as well. All in all, I would estimate that there were about 150 people there. Don't quote me on that though. It was such a great turnout and there were a lot of special speakers attending as well.

The evening started with an opening prayer and song. I was given permission to photograph the drum ceremony which isn't always the case. So that was a nice surprise and I actually came away with some really good shots. Following that, the MC for the evening, Sandi Boucher, explained how the evening was going to unfold.
Soon after that, there were a few welcoming remarks, followed by an overview from the IPC Coordinator, Frances Wesley. Everyone then took part in a wonderful buffet dinner. The food was really quite good. Once people had a chance to eat, it was then time to cut the cake which I made sure to get a photo of when I first arrived. The rest of the ceremony had a variety of important speakers saying some words to the guests.
At the end of the night, the last order of business was the presentation of a few different gifts. One was to the Regional Senior Justice Elder, another was to Justice Joyce Pelletier and the last one was presented to the IPC Committee.
After everyone received their gifts, the night was closed with a prayer and then another song. All in all it was a wonderful evening, and one that I was proud to be a part of.
Teach for Canada Summer Enrichment Program
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure to photograph an event for Teach for Canada. For those of you who don't know, Teach for Canada is a non-profit organization that works with schools in northern First Nations communities to recruit, prepare, and retain committed teachers.
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure to photograph an event for Teach for Canada. For those of you who don't know, Teach for Canada is a non-profit organization that works with schools in northern First Nations communities to recruit, prepare, and retain committed teachers.
They decided to host a four-week, live-in Summer Enrichment Program at Lakehead University and they asked me to capture the event. I love these types of assignments because it requires me to sit back a bit and watch the action all while picking the moments here and there to capture. Of course, there were some formal portraits, but the majority of the photos were of the soon to be teachers taking in all the information and interacting with one another.
One of the highlights of the of the night was when Nick Sherman, a local musician, played a variety of songs from his new album. He gave a very powerful performance and it was great to see some local talent support this important organization.

Cinderella - with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra
This past Wednesday I had the pleasure of shooting Cinderella at the Community Auditorium for The Walleye Magazine. Surprisingly this was my first ballet I have ever been to, let alone hired photograph. So suffice it to say I was super excited.
This past Wednesday I had the pleasure of shooting Cinderella at the Community Auditorium for The Walleye Magazine. Surprisingly this was my first ballet I have ever been to, let alone hired photograph. So suffice it to say I was super excited. Going in I didn't really know what to expect which made that much more spontaneous and exciting. I ended up staying for the first act and it was wonderful. There were so many good dancers, and combined with the fantastic orchestra, it was really quite the evening. That's probably why it was pretty much a packed house.
Being limited to the corner of there stage I worried I would struggle getting good enough shots but in the end it wall worked out. As you can see from the pictures below I think I was able to capture some wonderful moments.
