Treena + Warren Wedding

Sometimes it's funny how things work out, case in point, Treena and Warren's wedding which I recently photographed. Originally I was supposed to cover a completely different wedding but as it turned out, that wedding fell through because they decided to do a destination wedding instead. There absolutely no hard feelings because that's just how things go sometimes. Then, just when I thought the day would be a write off, Amy, a former coworker approached me and asked if I could photograph her brother Warren's wedding. Even though I was just need for 2 hours, I was super excited to be able to photograph a wedding after all.

Even though I was just need for 2 hours, I was super excited to be able to photograph a wedding after all.

The location of the ceremony took place at Knox United Church, which I had never shot a wedding at before. It ended up being the perfect location for a nice intimate wedding. My day started about 30 minutes prior to the wedding which gave me ample time to get a ton of candid shots. It was very fun documenting the arrival of everyone and the emotions of the day.

Like most church ceremonies, it was pretty laid back and nicely paced which allowed me to move around freely, although discreetly. I always enjoy looking for different angles and also reactions and expressions in the crowd as well as from the wedding party. The great thing about Knox United Church is that it has a balcony on the second floor. I did have to be quick because it was a fairly short ceremony but I did manage to get a couple great wide angle photos of the entire ceremony.

Once the ceremony ended there was a brief meet and greet outside the church which once again allowed me to just move around in and out of the crowd and capture moments. Since I was only there for 2 hours we soon made our way to Seaman Park which is right across the street from Boulevard Lake. It's beautiful, if not somewhat hidden park, which is perfect for a small wedding party to get portraits done. This was probably my favourite part of the day because it was the first time I was really able to interact and talk with Treena and Warren, and a lot of their family members.

It also went by pretty fast but we got a lot accomplished. After I finished all the group photos, I eventually got Treena and Warren away from the crowd to capture some intimate moments between just the two of them. Before I knew it, my time was up. Even though it was fairly short wedding, for me, I came away with a lot of fantastic photos. I'm so glad Amy contacted me to photograph Treena and Warren's wedding.

Eden + Chris Wedding Portraits - Current River Park

Eden and Chris decided to get married at City Hall with just a small gathering of family members. So they decided to hire me for an hour to take all the family portraits. Usually my wedding days are fairly long but this was a nice change seeing as how I just focused on the portrait session of the wedding. We decided to use Current River Park as the setting which was a great choice. It was yet another beautiful day so the weather couldn't have been any better.

We decided to use Current River Park as the setting which was a great choice. It was yet another beautiful day so the weather couldn't have been any better.

As soon as I arrived we got right into all the large family portraits and eventually made our way down to just Eden and Chris. After grabbing a few portraits in the park area, the three of us decided to take a short cut through the bush and into the dam area. Eden was a real trooper as it wasn't the most groomed trail but we made it safe and sound. That is where we spent the next 20 minutes or so. The dam was definitely my favourite location of the shoot as there were just so many different spots to capture great photos.

Once we were done on the rocks, we headed up to the bridge and continued to have some fun with different poses. Then, before we knew it, it was time to head back to the park. We managed to get a few more portraits around the trees at the park and then we were done. The hour just flew by but as always, I was able to get a lot of beautiful photos in that short amount of time. Of course it helped that their entire family were very easy going.

Thanks to Eden and Chris for such a fun photo session. I'm glad I was able to be a part of their wedding day, even though it was for only an hour!

Angel + Family Portraits - Boulevard Lake

Wow, what another great portrait session. Luckily this time the weather was much nicer so I was able to photograph Angie and her family outside at Boulevard Lake. Once I arrived I noticed just how much snow we have had over the past while. The good news was that the trails were cleared so it made for easy walking.

Wow, what another great portrait session. Luckily this time the weather was much nicer so I was able to photograph Angel and her family outside at Boulevard Lake. Once I arrived I noticed just how much snow we have had over the past while. The good news was that the trails were cleared so it made for easy walking.

As I met up with Angel and her family in the parking lot I noticed a pickup truck, a rope and father and daughter getting their skis on. Low and behold, shortly thereafter the truck pulled away with the two people getting pulled by the truck. It was definitely a sight to see and one that would lead into a very fun portrait session.

One of our first stops on the session was the playground located right by the parking lot. Angel and her entire family were very accommodating and willing to climb around a bit. Angel had a couple great suggestions for spots to get shots and they turned out fantastic. One of my favourite photos of the day was by far the one of her Dad crossing the tire bridge. Priceless.

We then continued our way along the path and stopped along the way like I usually do. I just kept it really relaxed, making sure to break up the walk with quick photos here and there. Upon arriving at the path that goes along the water we managed to get some interesting photos there.

It was then time to head back and make sure Journey, their beautiful dog wasn't left out. She was waiting patiently in the vehicle the whole session. We finished off with a few more photos including Journey and then called it a day.

As always, thanks to Angel and the rest of her family. It was a pleasure to photograph her family!

Amy + Family Fall Portraits

For the third time in as many years I had the chance to photograph Amy and her wonderful family. As with the first session I did with them, we chose the huge park just off Cumberland Street by Boulevard Lake. It has a ton of neat little spots for photos and it's a short walk up to the Boulevard trail.

We started off by just having some fun with the leaves. Lots of great shots came from that alone! There were also some cool looking trees around so we took advantage of those as well. After that we made our way to the Boulevard trail and eventually to the Lake. Everyone had such a great time and there was so much energy. The hour went by super fast and I simply cannot wait until the next session.

Maha + Kevin Portraits - Boulevard Lake

When Maha and Kevin contacted me to take their photos for their 1 year anniversary I got really excited. There is something about anniversaries that make these photo sessions that much more special. I could tell that they were a bit nervous to be in front of the camera at first but they quickly fell into stride. From there it was smooth sailing and it resulted in a lot of great photos.

The location was just across from Boulevard Lake. It's a nice little venue that has a great beach area with really cool rocks as well as some nice trails leading to Centennial Park. I must say, both Maha and Kevin were very easy going and quite adventurous. There were some tricky spots we had to walk to under the bridge and they didn't even hesitate. It was that type of flexibility and care free attitude that allowed me to get a lot of the photos you see below.

The hour went by super quick and I'm sure we could have even went longer! Thanks again to Maha and Kevin for inviting me to be part of their 1 year anniversary. Hopefully I get to see them again on their second one.

Matt + Jen Engagement

My latest photo session was engagement photos for Matt & Jen. With their busy schedule we weren’t able to do them until this week. The weather didn’t quite hold out for us and it ended up being a very cold morning. But, that had absolutely no effect on how the photos turned out and how much fun everyone had.

The weather didn’t quite hold out for us and it ended up being a very cold morning. But, that had absolutely no effect on how the photos turned out and how much fun everyone had. We started the 1 hour session at the bluffs. They both wanted a few photos with the Sleeping Giant in the background. Because we scheduled it for 9 in the morning, this allowed for perfect lighting.

Next up was a quick car ride to Boulevard and the dam area. We stopped along the bridge and eventually made our way down to the rapid area which was no completely covered with snow and ice. As we made our way back to the start we took advantage of a bench and then some of the forested area. Matt and Jen were perfect models and they helped make the entire shoot feel natural and candid. I’m still not sure if Matt can feel his feet from all the deep snow I made him walk through, but I’m sure they will enjoy the results!

Amy + Family Portraits

With the Fall weather slowly going away it’s getting harder and harder find colourful spots throughout the city. But, if you like hard enough, there is still plenty of colour left. For my latest portrait session with Amy and her family we were originally going to go to Boulevard, instead though, we ended up just down the street where there were plenty of leaves and fall colours!

As soon as we got out of the vehicles the kids were off and running. The majority of the photo session was me following them around and capturing candid photos. As you can see from the samples below, I came away with some really good ones. We were also able to get a couple family photos as well which is often hard with energetic kids. Aside from the pumpkin taking some abuse, a few tumbles and even a couple elbows to the head, the session was a success. Everyone had fun, especially me! Thanks to Amy and her family for letting me photograph them on a beautiful Sunday morning.

Chellsea + Chris Engagement

For Chellsea and Chris’s engagement photos we chose Boulevard Lake. It’s a great location as it has an infinite amount of places to stop and take photos. The weather was somewhat windy and over cast but this kind of weather is actually ideal for photos. (well minus the wind).

We started at the mini put fence which is always a very photogenic location. Chellsea and Chris were a bit shy going into the shoot, as most couples are, but they quickly settled in and had a great time interacting. Next up, we simply started making our way to the bridge. Along the way we stopped at the park and along the trail. As I have mentioned before, I always try and stand back a bit an catch natural photos with the couples interacting. Even this can be a bit tough for the couple sometime but both Chellsea and Chris were completely comfortable in front of the camera.

Once we got to the bridge we created some photos there and then went down the dam. This was the most fun for me. It was such an awesome setting with the dam in the background and the rocks in the front. I could have easily spent all day there but I don’t think Chellsea would have wanted to spend much more time pushing her hair out her face from the wind. Aside from Chris misstepping into a deep puddle, everything went smoothly. It didn’t even phase him either, he just took in stride (literally!)

As we made our way back I continued to get some nice casual photos of Chellsea and Chris walking. As usual the photo session went very quick. I am very much looking forward to their wedding on August 3rd. It should be a great time and I’m sure I’ll come away with some fantastic photos!

Heidi + Family Portraits

Below is a recent shoot I did at Boulevard Lake. This time around it was Heidi and her family. This was by far the most tiring (but fun) shoot I have had to date. I was running around the entire time trying to get some ‘still’ shots. Who knew two year olds had so much energy! Thanks again to Heidi and her family for coming out and making it an evening to remember.

Jackie + Marcy Wedding

It was a brisk fall afternoon with plenty of sun, the perfect day for a wedding! The day started at 2:00pm sharp at theThunder Bay Conservatory. This was my first wedding there and it was by far my favourite setting to date. The backdrops for all the photos were a photographer’s dream.

The ceremony took place on the small bridge which had a serene stream running underneath it. Both Jackie and Marcy looked beautiful which only made my job that much easier for the all the photos I took that day.

After the ceremony we got photos of all the groups and a few of just Jackie and Marcy. With the light streaming down from the glass roof, it made for some truly great photos.

Next up were the outdoor portrait shoots. This is where the real fun began. First up was one of the more popular spots in Thunder Bay, Hillcrest Park. We did a few photos by the canon, down by the trees and of course with the sleeping giant as a backdrop. As always I was able to snap a few candids as well.

From there we went to Boulevard Park. After taking some quick shots on the bridge we ventured down on to the rocks. Both Jackie and Marcy showed no fear jumping over large puddles and doing their best not to slip and fall.

Another spot we had on our list was Centennial Park. We could have spent all day there but instead we picked a few locations and just rolled with it. Again both Jackie and Marcy were up for anything. Whether it was getting in the bulldozer or climbing up on the horse carriage, nothing was off limits.

Before we called it a day we did one final pose at the top of the bluffs. The day went by super fast and we got a lot done in 3 hours, including the ceremony! I couldn’t have asked for a more fun couple to photograph. They were both extremely easy going and willing to do anything I said!
