Leah + Family Portraits - One Island Lake

My second portrait session of the day was at the complete opposite end of the city, at One Island Lake. It ended up being Leah’s family camp, which has been in the family since the 40’s. Suffice it to say, it was quite beautiful there.

There was a lot of property to work with which was nice, and of course we used the Lake at the end of the session. My favourite part was definitely getting everyone to jump as high as they can out of the water. As you can see from the photo, there is always one family member that full commits.

It was a hot day, but it felt good to be taking photos of such an amazing family out by the Lake. I’m looking forward to many more backyard sessions this summer and fall!

Leah + Barrett Portraits - Centennial Park

It’s always nice doing portraits for people I have worked with in the past, on a professional level. Leah is a local business owner and she wanted some family portraits. I got to meet her wonderful husband Barrett. They were such a lovely couple to spend a chilly but beautiful afternoon with. The last few shots on the rapids were definitely my favourites, as the snow just started to really come down.

Leah + Family Portraits

Whenever I do family session at home, I always look forward to them. Combine that with a very important occasion like an 80th birthday party and it makes it that much better. Leah and her family, who are from out of town wanted to surprise their father with a portrait session, and that is where I came in. I felt honoured to be a part of their day, let alone capture it.

I made sure the session was a mix of formal portraits and a lot of candids and just everyone interacting and having fun. That’s the way I home session should be, at least in my mind. No one wants to sit around posing for photos for 1 hour. Even though I was only there for a short while, I’m glad I got to meet everyone and provide them with a some memories that will hopefully last them the rest of their life!

Leah + Family Studio Portraits

It has been an extremely cold couple weeks here in Thunder Bay, and it doesn't look to be getting any warmer soon. That means outdoor portrait session are not really possible. Luckily, I now have an indoor photo studio so I don't have to rely solely on outdoor portraits. Leah and her family decided to have a mini-session with me a few days ago and it turned out to be very fun.

With my studio photography, the portraits are a bit more formal but I just love the look and feel of them. I'm not able to get as many candid photos as I would on location or outside but that is completely fine. It helped that Leah and everyone were very comfortable in front of the camera. Plus, I was still able to get a few spontaneous photos too.

The 30 minutes went by very quickly but we came away with a ton of natural looking photos. Remember, just because it's cold outside, it doesn't mean you still can't get wonderful portraits done inside!

Leah + Family Portraits - Hillcrest Park

Hillcrest was one of the latest locations of a family portrait session, and it was a chaotic, but fun one. Anytime kids are involved, there are always going to be great moments to capture. Leah, who is part of my Niece's family, decided to get some family portraits done, seeing as how they were all down for a baptism. There were 3 families in total, including my niece Brittney, and they all had kids. So, suffice it to say, I had my work cut out for me, but in a good way.

As soon as everyone was ready to go, we started with the entire family portraits which when pretty seamlessly, although, anything kids are involved, it's next to impossible to get everyone to look at the camera at the same time. I think I came away with some keepers in the end. After those family portraits, it was mainly me going back and forth between the families, getting some individual family portraits and following the kids around.

All in all, the session went by extremely fast and I had such a great time. Not only do I enjoy photographing families, but I absolutely love capturing kids at play. There are always so many unique and fun moments. Thanks to Leah and everyone else for letting me spend an hour with them on a beautiful Fall day.

Leah + Family Portraits

Centennial Park was the setting for my most recent photo session. Leah, Stephen and their family decided to take take advantage of my Fall Portrait Special. They were leaving to fly back to Vancouver the next day so everyone was hoping for a good day of weather. We got what we wished for because it was cool, cloudy and most importantly, it didn’t rain!

They were leaving to fly back to Vancouver the next day so everyone was hoping for a good day of weather. We got what we wished for because it was cool, cloudy and most importantly, it didn’t rain!

As we all made our way to the main trail, we stopped around the cabin area first and captured some family photos of the entire group. After that, everyone seemed a lot more relaxed which made from some great candid photos as well. From there, we took advantage of the fall colours along the trail, the train tracks, the park and of course the day wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to the horses.

As usual, the day went by very fast and the photos turned out amazing mainly because Leah, Stephen and their entire family were very easy going and it really helped create some genuine moments. Thanks to Leah, Stephen and everyone else for a great time!
