Jake + Journee Halloween Portraits - Cascades
Jake and Journee decided to dress up for their portrait session with me today at Cascades. They definitely went all out too, which made for fantastic looking photos. Plus, they even dressed up their son Noah, who was owning his costume like no other!

Brittney + Friends Halloween Session - Seaman Park
I still can’t believe Halloween is only a few weeks away. Brittney and her friends got an early start this year and asked if I could capture some photos of them in their costumes. I of course jumped at the chance. Plus, she’s my niece, so anything for family right?

We chose Seaman Park by Boulevard which ended up being the perfect backdrop. Plus, everyone was running a bit late which meant we ended up doing the session just before sunset. That made for some great moody photos which I absolutely love. All in all, it was a very fun session, and you can tell they everyone had a great time.
Hunger 2018
It’s almost Halloween and that means one of my favourite events of the year is here, Hunger 2018. It took place this past weekend, and as usual, it was such a great time. Admittedly I didn’t get out to cover it as much in previous years because I had a birthday party I was attending, but I still came away with a lot of great shots.

Definitely Superior Art Gallery always puts on such an amazing event. I can only imagine how much work goes into organizing all the venues and performances. All I have to do is show up and take photos of people in costumes. I have it easy.
Each year it seems to be better turnout out then the last too. I’m already looking forward to next years event. Scroll down to check out some of the highlights!
The Hunger 12
The Hunger 12 took place this past Saturday in the downtown area of Port Arthur. As the name suggests, this was the 12th year, and I think about the 3rd time I have photographed it. It's always the perfect excuse to dress up, go out, and see all the awesome costumes that everyone came up with. As with the previous years, I was taking photos for The Walleye.

My wife Anne and I weren't actually planning on attending this year because we thought we would be out of town, but as it turned out, we didn't end up leaving for our trip until the Sunday morning. So that means we did get out for a couple hours to explore the scene and see some truly unique costumes. You can see some of my favourite ones below!
The Hunger 11
Halloween has come and gone but over the weekend I had was fortunate enough to capture all the craziness that was The Hunger 11 in downtown Thunder Bay. This was my third year capturing the event for The Walleye, which was hosted by Definitely Superior Art Gallery. I will continue taking photos of The Hunger as long as I'm able to because it's such a great event. For those who don't know about it, it's a night of live performances at various bars in downtown Port Arthur where people dress up for Halloween to show off their costumes and just have a good old time.

Because I was taking photos for the Walleye, my wife Anne and I had VIP bracelets which allowed us to skip lines and attend each and every venue without having to wait. The freedom to do so throughout the night was priceless because we managed to see so many costumes and fantastic live bands.
I could go on and on about all the cool people we met throughout the night, but I think that is more then showcased by the photos below. Thanks again to DefSup for hosting the event and The Walleye for the tickets and the opportunity!
The Hunger 10
Last year was my first year photographing The Hunger for the The Walleye. It was actually my first freelance assignment for the paper and since then I have gotten the chance to photograph a lot of cool and interesting events. So, as Halloween drew closer this year, I actually requested to photograph The Hunger 10. Luckily for me and my wife Anne, we were told that we would in fact able to make photographs again this year. This also meant that we would have to dress up. After all, you gotta look the part as well.

I decided to go as a pimp, and Anne was my a 'lady of the night'. Her costume was simply awesome and it was actually so good that she ran into numerous people that night who didn't even recognize her at first. She's the one with the pink hair and striped shirt.
So, we set off for downtown around 11:30 and our first stop was Hell. It's a great little venue located under the old Eaton Centre. As soon as we arrived the party was in full swing with the band playing and people all around in costumes. I immediately went to the band to snap a few photos and then I got some great shots of some of the costumes. Anne, as always, helped me gather some people for photos.
We stayed there for about 45 minutes and then it was off to the Red Lion. It wasn't nearly as busy as Hell, but there were still a lot of very cool costumes, and the band was just starting as we got there. After getting a few photos there it was then off to Black Pirates Pub. Once again, I got a few photos of the band and a couple photos of some of the costumes that stood out. The last stop on our tour of downtown was The Sovereign Room. It was absolutely packed in there. Keep in mind, this was around 1:00 in the morning. People were dancing and mingling and there were even more costumes that we didn't see yet. One of my favourite ones of the night, was the one I chose for the cover photo.
Overall it was such fun night and it was so good to see so many people dressed up and having fun. Thanks to The Walleye for inviting us to take photos of this years event. I can't wait until next year. I guess we should already start thinking about our costume. Halloween always seems to come so fast.
Howlapalooza - Butchers Ball 3
Howlapalooza – Butchers Ball 3, is by far some of the most fun I’ve had taking photos this year. As with previous years, it was held at the Prosvita. One of the local legions in Thunder Bay, Ontario. I arrived at the event an hour prior to set up all my gear. With the backdrop already in place I set up my area around it. It included all my own lighting, a photo printer, laptop and an extra monitor so all participants and passer-byers could see the photos right then and there.

The process was simple. Get your photo taken, check it out on screen instantly, and if you like it you could purchase a print in a variety of sizes right there. The whole system worked wonderfully with only a few delays here and there when it got busy. Otherwise, it seemed like everyone who participated was having a blast. Even if people didn’t intend on purchasing a print, they were encouraged to get a couple photos taken regardless.
Overall the night was a huge success for Jerry of Big Bang Productions. From what I saw, there were a TON of people, all dressed up. Be sure to check out his website for upcoming costume parties. They are always a guaranteed fun time.
