Amy & Family Portraits

This marked the second year in a row that I had the pleasure to photograph Amy and her wonderful family. Originally we planned on doing the session at 11:00 in the morning but after seeing the weather forecast calling for -40 degree weather, we pushed it back to the afternoon. Luckily we did because once 3:00 pm came around it was still quite cold. This made for a challenging but very fun photo shoot!

Once everyone arrived I simply grabbed my cameras and started shooting away. With weather conditions like this you really can’t stop and try for poses, you just have to get those candid shots. Especially when two young children are involved. The last thing they want to do is stop and stare at the camera. But this is why I love photographing children, because of the spontaneity. It makes for some very genuine moments.

Of course, we still tried to get at least a couple family photos. My favourite was when everyone stopped for just a few moments to let me capture a great photo of the whole family. It only last a few moments and then it was back to the chaos. With the weather conditions being so extreme the entire session when by very quick. The hour seemed like 10 minutes, but I walked away with really great photos. Thanks to Amy and her family for braving the winter weather, the results were well worth it!
