Lucas Birthday Portraits at Centennial Park

I have done birthday portraits of Lucas for a number of years now and each time has been a lot of fun. He has so much character and personality that I have always come away with good moments. This year it was just him, his mom and grandma. It as a nice intimate fall session. Upon greeting Lucas at the start of the session he was all smiles but that quickly when away.

This year it was just him, his mom and grandma. It as a nice intimate fall session. Upon greeting Lucas at the start of the session he was all smiles but that quickly when away.

For whatever reason he was in a mood, like all kids get into. He definitely made us work for these shots but that signature smile of his came through here and there and I made sure to be quick in capturing them. To be honest, I also got some good shots of him not so happy which are just as special. The last part of the session we headed down to the entrance of Centennial and spent some time on the water getting a few more photos. By that time, he was his old self, for the most part. With the promise of Walmart, his favourite place, looming in the future he toughed the session out. After all, being a model is hard work.

Even though it wasn’t his best day, we still came away with another memorable session. I can’t wait until next years birthday.

Brittney + Adam Family Session - Hillcrest Park

As I have mentioned in previous blog posts I always enjoy portraits sessions where family is involved. This time around it was with my niece Brittney, her husband Adam and the rest of their family. We decided on Hillcrest Park later in the evening and we couldn't have asked for a better day for portraits. The weather was perfect and the sun slowly setting in the sky, so the lighting was ideal.

The session itself was very casual and I kind of just rolled with the punches. Anytime kids are involved you really have no choice. Luckily everyone was great and it made for some really good 'posed' photos along with a lot of candids. I had a great time spending time the whole family and I can't wait to do it again.

Shelly + Family Portraits - Centennial Park

I was so happy when Shelly asked if I could do another family session with them, this time at Centennial Park which is of course always beautiful. The session was actually a Christmas present for her Mom. I had photographed her and the family before so I knew that it would be fun and relaxed time. As I always do, we just walked and stopped along the way getting a mix of candid and posed photos. Shelly and Jason had some great ideas for portraits too which is always welcome.

We made sure to use the beautiful cabins as a backdrop and even the old red tractor that has been there as long as I can remember. The kids loved the tractor and were climbing all over it. Before the session was done, I suggested everyone go down to the river to get a couple final photos. I'm so glad I did as those ones turned out to be some of my favourites. I can't wait until the next session!

Katelyn + Family Portraits - Vickers Park

This was my second family portrait session with Katelyn and her amazing family. This time around Courtney Lynn and Jake joined us as well. I hadn't seen them since I shot their wedding a couple years ago. We decided on Vickers Park this time around and it ended up being the perfect location. It had a nice mix of trees and shade and of course the park for the kids.

We started off around the trees and slowly made our way to the park at the end of the session. Otherwise, there probably wouldn't have been any hope of getting the kids to sit still. They were great in from of the camera though and they had lots of energy.

The 30 minute session went by so fast but I'm amazed at how many great photos I came away with. Of course it helps that the family I was photographing was a pleasure to capture. I can't wait until the next session!

Dany + Family Portraits - Centennial Park

I had an amazing 30 minute session with Dany and her family this past weekend at Centennial Park. Even though it was a short session I laughed so much during the entirety of it. Everyone had such a good time and I think that came through in the photos.

It also helped they everyone was very laid back and willing to do pretty much whatever I told them too. Plus, they had their own ideas on some of the photos as well. Those are my favourite type of sessions!

Megan + Nick Engagement - Kam River Park

I'm currently running a small Facebook promotion for engaged couples looking to explore some different locations in town. The response I got so far was amazing, and one of the first couples to book a session was Megan and Nick. It was my first time meeting them that day, but it didn't take long for me to see just how great of a couple they were.

The response I got so far was amazing, and one of the first couples to book a session was Megan and Nick. It was my first time meeting them that day, but it didn't take long for me to see just how great of a couple they were.

Megan and Nick decided they wanted to start the session at Starbucks, which is where Megan used to work, and also where they got engaged. So, that particular location was the perfect one to start at. I decided to simply get some candid photos showing natural moments between them, just like if they were hanging out by themselves.

The next stop on our session, which I suggested was Kam River Park. It's not necessarily an unknown location, but I don't think it's really used all that much for photo sessions. That's why I decided to recommend it to a few initial couples.

What I like most about Kam Park, is that it actually has a lot of different spots within it, including the Via Train, the tunnels, the boardwalk and some of the views. We literally took advantage of all of them. Megan and Nick were very easy to photograph and most of the time I didn't even really have to direct them. It's hard not to have a certain posed nature to engagement sessions, but I think we found nice balance, and Megan and Nick played a huge part in that.

If this session was any indication, I can't wait to meet all the other couples that have taken me up on my offer. I couldn't have asked for a better first engaged couple to photograph in Megan and Nick.

For those interested, you can view my current promotion by clicking here!

Amy + Brad Family Portraits - Chippewa Park

I had the pleasure of photographing a new family a couple days ago at Chippewa Park. Amy, Brad, Jared and Beau were such an awesome family to photograph, I really hope I get to do it again next year. One of the main reasons I love family portrait sessions is admittedly the possibility of kids being present. They always have so much energy and emotion, and this session was no different.

One of the main reasons I love family portrait sessions is admittedly the possibility of kids being present. They always have so much energy and emotion, and this session was no different.

I think Beau was a bit confused by me at first, as you can tell by the first photo. He was definitely sizing me up and determining if he was going to smile at all for that day. Luckily, it didn't take long for him to warm to me. Jared, on the other hand, was going from the minute they arrived. I didn't see him at first as I met Amy and Brad at their vehicle, but that was because he was already at the park running around. He didn't stop running the entire session. But, he did give me some good moments and poses throughout.

This time of year, Chippewa is always nice. The colours were out and the weather was decent. It was a bit chilly but it was actually kind of nice. I tried to keep the session moving at a good pace because I know kids don't have the longest attention span. I essentially let Jared lead the way for most of the session, or, at least make him think he was. :)

I couldn't have asked for a more fun family to spend an hour with!

Brenden + Anika Family Portraits - Centennial Park

My latest portrait session took place at Centennial Park with Brenden, Anika and their little girl, Delilah. It was a very relaxed session and I was amazed at how calm Delilah was in from of the camera. She was actually the perfect little model. As were Brended and Anika, who I hardly had to tell what to do.

We took advantage of some of the cabins as backdrops, beautiful red tractor and finally the barn area. Unfortunately there were no horses out, but that didn't stop us. We ended the session with a few photos in the trail by the entrance. I still can't believe how quickly the hour went by. Brenden mentioned getting some extended family portraits done in the near future so I can't wait for that!

Kirstyn Family Portraits - Vickers Park

This past Sunday I had two separate photo sessions and both focused just on the children. The first session was with Kirstyn's two children as well as her sister Steph's daughter as well. I don't think Kirstyn knew it going into the session, but I had actually photographed Steph's wedding a couple years ago. I absolutely love photographing children so I was super excited to get the session on the way.

When photographing children this young, you pretty much just have to roll with the punches and let them dictate how the shoot goes. Of course, I still got some good 'posed' shots with a little direction, but you have to be extremely quick and reactive as the moments they sit still are very fleeting. Luckily, I excel at taking candid photos, so I came away with a good mix of moments.

I chose Vickers Park for the location because it has the nice playground there plus an large open field. We spent most of the time around the playground and then we got a few photos out in the open area too. By then the rain started coming down so I we wrapped it.

It was such pleasure photographing both Kirstyn and Steph's kids. The were so well behaved and easy going it made my job that much easier!

Patrick + Family Portraits - Centennial Park

My session of the weekend took place this past Friday at Centennial Park with Patrick and his family. In all, there were 5 families members including Patrick, and they were all extremely fun to photograph. The weather was beautiful and the sun was behind the clouds for the most part, so it was the perfect setting for an hour long family session.

In all, there were 5 families members including Patrick, and they were all extremely fun to photograph. The weather was beautiful and the sun was behind the clouds for the most part, so it was the perfect setting for an hour long family session.

We all met in the parking lot and then made our way down the trail towards the cabins, stopping along the way. Anyone who has read or seen any of my blog posts in the past knows that I have done plenty of session at Centennial Park. One of the main reasons being that is one of the most beautiful and family friendly spots to take photos in town. The challenge with that though, is not making every session look the same.

Luckily, that's not a hard thing to do, because the families change each and every time and they bring their own personality to the shoot. This one was no different. There was a lot of laughing and joking around, and you could just tell, they all get along very well. This atmosphere made for some really 'natural' posted photos as well as some good candid ones too.

I was hoping to finish up by the horses, but for some reason the gate was closed, so we couldn't do that. Although, we did end up getting a few good shots in and around the park. After that, the session was done. It was a great start to the weekend, and I'm thankful I was able to spend an hour of my time photographing such a fun family.

Vicki + Lincoln Family Portraits - Centennial Park

My second session with Vicki and her family was at Centennial Park this time. It was a mini-session just like last time at the Marina and this one went by just as fast. We started by the playground at Centennial Park and slowly worked our way around it. The whole session had a great flow to it and of course, Lincoln and Vicki were the perfect helpers.

They decided, just like the last session, that we would focus solely on the the kids. They were the perfect little models and pretty much open to doing anything. This meant I was able to capture some great candid photos in between some of the more posed photos. Although it was fairly hot out it was still perfect weather for an outdoor photo shoot.

Thanks again to Vicki and Lincoln for letting me photograph their wonderful children once again. I can't wait until the next session!
