An Evening of Music on the Waterfront
Last week was the first time this year that we made it to the Live on the Waterfront event that happens every Wednesday during the summer. I decided to go again this past Wednesday and I took my mother in law and her sister with me. After we set up our seats I started walking around. I of course photographed the last two performers of the night which were great. They were Nêhiyawak and Jeremy Dutcher. I was disappointed that I missed Robin Ranger but we arrived a little too late. I have been shooting pretty much everything with the Canon EOS R which I absolutely love but this time around I decided to just use my original Canon 5D Classic.

There is just something about that camera that makes me want to keep shooting with it. It’s over 13 years old, little to know dynamic range and a very low megapixel count according to today’s standard. Who cares. It doesn’t effect me at all. It’s a joy to use and as long as you know what you are doing, you can create good photos with any camera you have. Along with the music, I also took the time to walk around the Marina and do some personal photography. I haven’t had a chance to do so in what seems like forever. It felt really good. I had no theme in mind, just capturing what ever caught me eye.
Thanks for stopping by!
Urban Infill: Art in the Core 12
Even though Thunder Bay is considered a 'small city' compared to the likes of Toronto and Winnipeg, it never ceases to amaze me how many great events there are throughout the year, and moreover, all the fantastic artistic talent this city has to offer. Case in point, Defsup's Urban Infill: Art in the Core 12 took place this past weekend, and it was just as diverse and fun as last years, which was the first one I attended. I was lucky enough to photograph most of this years version, along with a lot of other great photographers, who I officially met for the first time.

For those of you who have never been, Downtown Port Arthur is host to numerous exhibits, live performances, workshops and all around fun. Many local business's donate their time and space into the evening allowing various artists and performers to showcase their skills. As a photographer, it's so much fun wandering around, popping in here and there, and capturing moments. It's a very laid back atmosphere but with never a dull moment.
Be sure to head on over to Facebook to checkout Defsup's Facebook Page where you can find a lot more photography of the event from many other local photographers. I can't wait until next years event!
Urban Infill: Art in the Core 11
This past Friday I had the opportunity to photograph this years Urban Infill which is hosted by Definitely Superior Art Gallery. This was the 11th year that it took place, but the first time I attended. I don't know how I have gone this many years without checking out but at least I made out this time around. After attending this years event, I will be definitely be going to next years.

For those of you who have never attended before, it's a great opportunity to go see all the great local talent in Thunder Bay. So many business in downtown Port Arthur opened their doors and allowed a wide variety of artists and performers show their work. It was amazing to see everything and everyone come together to support the local art scene. I was thoroughly impressed with just how much raw talent there is out there in the city.
Even though I was photographing the event for Definitely Superior, I was still able to take it all in. My wife Anne kept me company throughout the evening and even she had a good time. As a photographer, my goal was to capture the essence of the event, which included the people and of course some of the art and just the overall mood.
I am very much looking forward to photographing next years event and seeing everyone come out again to support such a great cause.
