Kim + Family Portraits - Boundary Drive
I’m so lucky to have families that I get to capture photos of as the years go by. They are definitely the most fun sessions. One of the reasons I enjoy them so much is watching how the kids grow up, and how their personalities change. It’s just such a joy. Kim and her family are one of my favourites, and this session was an absolute blast, out in the country where some of them live. Check out some of the highlights below.

Kim + Jeff Family Portraits
It wasn’t very long ago that I did Fall portraits with Kim and her family Fast forward to a few months later, and their mom wanted to get some family photos too. This time around, there was snow on the ground and also falling down majestically. It made for the perfect weather. I always love photographing Kim and her family, and this session was no different!

Kim + Jeffrey Family Portraits
It was my second time photographing Kim and her family. The last time being just under 3 years ago!
That last session was during winter so it was inside. Since winter isn’t quite here yet, we got some good weather and did it outside, which worked out perfectly. They have a huge backyard so there was a ton of beautiful space to work with. Plus we got to watch the dogs chase each other around!

Kim + Family Backyard Portraits
My latest family session was out in the country at Kim and her family’s home. When possible, I always recommend doing sessions in this setting. It’s just such a great opportunity to not only get the usual group photos, but a lot of candids as well! Everyone is just so much more relaxed.

We started by heading to the back part of the property where the trees were to get some group photos. After that, we made our way back to the front in front of the absolutely huge wood piles. The last 30 minutes of the session was simply letting the kids be themselves. Playing baseball, eating ice cream and just having a good time!
Kim + Curtis Wedding
My day with Kim and Curtis started with Curtis and the guys at their house. It was a nice way to ease into the wedding day for me because I essentially documented the guys getting ready. They were all pretty laid back, as is the case with most weddings. I spent about an hour with them. We eventually made it outside for some family portraits and even more great candid photos. It also gave me a chance to meet all the guys in the wedding party, as well as a lot of the family too.

I then made my way to the girls at Valhalla Inn. They were having a good time getting ready and there were a lot of laughs. It was a bit hot in the room so I felt bad for Kim getting into her dress but she had one of her bridesmaids fanning her with a magazine so that helped! Eventually, Kim’s mom and dad arrived for the first look. I think that was one of my favourite moments of the day.
The ceremony took place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral which is a very beautiful church. I especially like it because it is quite bright and well lit on the inside. As most photographers can attest to, churches don’t always have ideal lighting. It was a beautiful ceremony and I had plenty of time to move around and look for unique angles and moments. As the ceremony was finishing up, I took a quick peak outside and noticed the weather was holding up. This was great news because it meant we could go to the Tree Farm to do all the wedding party portraits. That is exactly what we did.
The Tree Farm is by far one of my favourite places to do portraits. It’s almost impossible to not come away with great photos there. It obviously helped that Kim and Curtis are an amazing couple too. Plus, the entire wedding party had a great sense of humour. We did a mix of fun and serious photos out there.
It was eventually time to head back to Valhalla Inn for the reception. Upon entering Kim and Curtis had each guess get their photo taken with a polaroid camera and then had them place it in the sign in album. I wish more couples would do that, as it’s a great idea. Plus, it allows me to get a lot of candid photos of guests arriving. From there the ceremony flew by, and as you can see from the photos below, I’m pretty sure everyone had a good time. I wish Kim and Curtis a long and happy marriage!
Kim + Family Portrait Session
My recent session with Kim and her family got postponed a couple time due to this extreme weather. We really want to do some outdoor photos so each time we booked it, the weather just wasn't cooperating. Well, we finally decided to just do it and have fun in the process, otherwise we would be waiting until spring! Who knows how far away spring is too.

Luckily, Kim has a very beautiful home, so even though it was still very cold out we spent just a bit of time outdoors and the rest of the time inside. Kim and her family were such an easy going family to photograph. They even posed outside without their jackets. I worked quick though so they didn't freeze too much. For the remainder of the time I just captured some real life moments.
To be honest, I much prefer documentary style photography so I was so happy with how many candid photos I ended up getting. It helped that Kim and her family were completely natural in front of the camera. I could have easily spent a couple hours with them but it was Super Bowl Sunday after all.
I can't wait to hopefully photograph Kim and her family again, when it's warmer out!
Kim + Ted Family Portraits - Tree Farm
This year alone I have photographed a few sessions at the Tree Farm and it is alway a favourite location of mind. The thing is, it's always in the same area. I always forget that the actual forest is massive and there are a ton of great spots throughout. Well, Kim and Ted suggested that we do their portraits at the Tree Farm but in a different section. I'm so glad they did, because it opened up my eyes to so many new spots.

After we parked in the second (smaller) parking lot, we walked about 10 minutes through the forest to a special spot that Kimberly wanted to use. Sadly, most of the leaves had already fallen but it actually worked out, because all the leaves were on the ground which made from some great colours. Kim and Ted had their 5 month year old daughter Ellie with them as well. So I was very anxious to capture some photos of all 3 of them.
I must say Ellie was so easy to photography. If anything, she just stared at me as I took photos. I usually have a hard time getting the little ones to look at the camera, and that was definitely not the case with her. It was so cute.
It was just a mini session, so we didn't stay in one spot too long and we were able to find a few other cool places on the way back to stop and take photos. Before we got back to the entrance I noticed a nice field with tall grass and I made sure to get a few photos of just Kim and Ted. Sometimes with these types of sessions, especially one with a young child, it's easy to focus all of the attention on the group and not the parents. So, I'm glad I remember to get a few photos of just them.
I will definitely be going back to the Tree Farm to scout out some more locations in the new area. Even with winter now officially here, it just means it will be a completely different look. Thank you to Kim, Ted and especially Ellie for a great session!
Kim + Glynn Wedding
Not too many people have winter weddings, especially in Thunder Bay, but this one was different. Kim and Glynn approached me to shoot their short and intimate wedding at the Thunder Bay Conservatory, which is a fantastic setting for a wedding.

Kim and Glynn approached me to shoot their short and intimate wedding at the Thunder Bay Conservatory, which is a fantastic setting for a wedding. Once I arrived I quickly unloaded my cameras and took some nice candid shots. Once the ceremony started everyone made their way to the small bridge. With the greenery and waterfall in the background, you couldn’t ask for a more peaceful and romantic backdrop.
