Victoria + Joseph Portraits - Centennial Park
Victoria and Joseph came in all the way from Kakabeka to join me for a portrait session. The weather was perfect and so were they. I always ask couples and families if they have done sessions in the past, and in this case, Victoria said they really hadn’t done one before.

Well, it didn’t show at all. I really didn’t have to do any direction at all. We just kept the session going at a nice easy pace. Once I chose a spot, I simply let them do their thing and they were amazing! As you can see from the photos, it’s like they had done this before many times!
Heather + Family Portraits - Centennial Park
There isn’t much to say about my session with Heather, other than you can instantly tell who the star of the show was. Macy. Don’t get me wrong Heather and her whole family were great, but we pretty much followed around Macy the whole session, which I was completely fine with. I learned that she is the fastest little girl in the world. I even raced her a few times and she of course ran.

Centennial Park was the perfect spot for the session too. Add in the fact that everyone dressed perfectly, especially Macy with her red sweater. So many great photographs from the day!
Heather + Family Portraits - Mission Marsh
Even though winter is here, it hasn’t been ‘too’ cold so it’s great being able to get out and so some portraits sessions. This past Sunday, I met up with Heather and her family down at the Mission Marsh. I figured this time of year it would be quite pretty with the snow and it indeed was. From the trails to the beach area to the boardwalks, there are plenty of different spots to take advantage of. It is right on Lake Superior so there are certain spots that can get quite windy. Luckily, I always try and keep things moving.

Of course Zoey was the star of the session and she led the way most of the time. That’s ok though, because I love photographing children. She was the perfect little model too. Every time I asked to take her photo with everyone else, or especially on her own, she posed right away. So much so, that I had to work to get a few good candids of her!
Since Thunder Bay has seen some decent snow over the past couple weeks the trails and forest were covered with a nice layer of it. It was pretty easy to come away with great photos because everyone was so natural. The main reason we did the session this weekend was because Heather’s parents were visiting from out of town so the timing worked out perfect.
I could have easily spent another 1 hour photographing everyone it was that much fun. I’m looking forward to the next session!
Heather + Family Portraits - Thunder Bay Marina
This past Sunday was yet another scorching summer day but that didn't stop Heather and her family from joining for a portrait session down at the Marina. We decided to walk around the outer portion of the Marina which is usually a little bit more quiet, and plus there are always small pockets of shade here and there to stop and do photos.

Right off that bat, I could tell Zoe, their daughter, was going to be a blast to photograph. She was very well behaved and actually posed on cue most of the time, yet still making me work for it a bit. Plus, there were a ton of candid moments throughout the session. Everyone was so natural and they just rolled with the punches. I always try to keep every one of my portrait sessions relaxed, and this one was no different.
The hour went by so fast and I still can't believe how many great photos I came away with. It helped that Heather and her family were so easy to photograph.
Heather + Family Portraits - Kakabeka Falls
Another year another portrait session with Heather and her family. It had been a while since I last had the chance to photograph everyone but with the Grandparents visiting for a bit Heather decided it was the perfect time to get some updated photos. The location this time around was Kakabeka Falls. It ended up being yet another perfect day.

As soon as I arrived, I could see the excitement amongst all 3 boys. They were definitely ready to get some portraits done and Heather mentioned to me that they had been asking to do so for quite some time. We started the session on the other end of the park where the the benches are and made our way around that area after that. I just made sure to keep things moving because it's hard enough to hold on to the attention span of 3 energetic young boys. I was amazed that I still came away with photos of them all smiling at the same time and not just making faces at me.
Kakabeka Falls has so many great little spots to stop and take pictures and we took advantage of a few of them. I also made sure to get some wide angle photos of the Falls in the background. Those were some of my favourites. But, to be honest, when I just let the kids do their thing and run around, those are some of the best photos from the session.
I have photographed Heather and her family a few times now and I can't wait until the next session. It's really special watching the boys grow up each year and document at least a part of their life along the way.
Heather + Family Portraits
My latest photo session was with Heather and her family out at their house off John Street Road. They had a ton of property so we made sure to take advantage of that along with the beautiful snow covering everything. We only had 30 minutes to work with so once everyone was ready we set up in front of their old barn and used it as a wonderful backdrop. Luckily it was just nice enough where everyone could get away with not wearing jackets.

Once we were done with the barn, we used a nearby snow covered tree to get a few couple shots and then it was off to the edge of the forest. Once there it was such a picturesque scene with the snow covered trees in the background. The last photo of the day was on their old skidoo which turned out to be one of my favourite photos of the day.
Thanks to Heather and her fantastic family for letting me spend a bit of time photographing them during this Christmas Season.
Heather + Jordan Wedding
With a few small weddings under my belt this year, Heather and Jordan’s special day was my first big one of the season. The weather was absolutely perfect so I knew it was going to be a great wedding. (Not that there are ever any ‘bad’ weddings’) The day started at a small little church just off of Oliver Road. As soon as I arrived I got my usual candid photos of the guests, the church itself and just the usual moments leading up to the ceremony itself. You can always feel the anticipation the air and I just love that feeling. I guess that will be me in August when I get to marry my beautiful Fiancé Anne.

You can always feel the anticipation the air and I just love that feeling. I guess that will be me in August when I get to marry my beautiful Fiancé Anne.
Once the ceremony began, that’s when I really went to work. The good thing was that there was a a lot of room to move around so I was able to get some great creative angles and photos without being a distraction. That is one of the main challenges when shooting inside a church of any kind. As a photographer you want to get the ‘shot’ but you have to do so quietly and discreetly as possible. I’d like to think I have become a pro at it.
After the ceremony, everyone gathered in the church lobby and congratulated the couple. We then decided to do the family portraits right outside the church. I found a nice shaded area in front of the trees. Although it was mainly family group photos I never stopped looking for this spontaneous moments. This goes on throughout the entire day.
Heather and Jordan were very smart and left plenty of time for portraits which meant we were able to travel to a few different locations. The first stop was the Marina. We got some fantastic expansive photos at the firepit area along the water. From there we simply chose different spots and just went with the flow. I came up with some ideas and so did they. It was very relaxed atmosphere and the resulting photos showed that.
Once we left the Marina, it was time for me to just focus on Heather and Jordan. We made our way to Friendship Gardens. I had forgotten how pretty it is there. Some of my favourite photos of the entire day took place there. One of them being the one with the windmill in the background. I also found a nice little spot nestled in the trees. It was then time to head on over to the reception, which took place at the Valhalla Inn. Before everyone settled in, I was able to get a lot of detail photos of the decorations and table settings, as well as the cake.
From there, it was just a matter of walking around and documenting the ceremony. I only had a little bit of time to work with so we decided to do the ‘cupcake’ cutting before hand. I did get the opportunity to photograph the first dance and a fun game they did with the crowd. After that, my day was done. All in all, I came away with so many great photos. Thanks as always to Heather and Jordan. It was a very fun wedding to photograph and everyone was fantastic to work with.
Heather + Jordan Engagement
My latest engagement session was a bit different in that it was split up into two different sessions. Heather and Jordan initially wanted to get some photos in the early morning at Hillcrest with the city lights in the background. So, the day of, we showed up at around 8:15 in the morning and took advantage of the darkness and the beautiful lights of the city. After about 20 minutes it started to pour rain so we had to cut it short.

We obviously couldn't just end it at that so we schedule a second mini session for later in the week at the Marina, for the morning once again. This time around we did it around 9:45 which allowed the sun to come up a bit more and give the photos an entirely different feel.
Instead of rain though it was blisteringly cold. We moved quickly between each shot to make sure we didn't get too cold. Heather and Jordan were both real troopers. Even though they were cold we managed to get some fantastic photos. One of my favourite photos in a very long time is the one you will find at the very top of this post. It's easy to always zoom in on each and every couple which is all fine and good but you still need to remember to take a step back sometimes. For that particular shot I stepped very far back which allowed for a uniquely intimate photo while showing off the surrounding scenery of the marina.
Both sessions went by extremely quick but were so much fun. I really can't wait for the wedding next year!
Heather + Family Fall Portraits
In what is now becoming a yearly tradition, I had the opportunity to once again photography Heather and her wonderful family. Having previously worked them on a couple occasions I had a good idea what to expect. But each year, it just gets more and more fun.

As soon as I arrived I was greeted by the boys who were very anxious to start the session. Heather has a wonderful property with a lot of cool and colourful spots. We decided to start near the back where there is a beautiful leaf covered trail. After getting some shots of the boys as well as a couple group shots we made our way to the backyard. Once there we used the nice bench and pumpkins Heather had set up to capture a variety of photos.
We also took advantage of some other fantastic areas which you can see below in the photos. Near the end of the session we made our way to the front yard. The boys climbed one of the trees individually and there was also some more leaf throwing. It was such a wonderful session and everyone did a fantastic job. Plus, it really helped that the colours were in full bloom out at Heather's house. Thanks again to everyone for a fun photo session. I can't wait until next year!
Heather + Family Portraits
A couple years ago I had the pleasure to photograph Heather and her family out at their house in the country. This time around it was the same location but there was another addition to the family. As soon as I got there it was like working with 3 professional models. The instant I pointed my camera at the boys they would strike a pose. It’s like they have been practicing the past 2 years!

Once everyone gathered we made our way to the trail in the backyard. Although the leaves were mostly on the ground they still provided a good setting as well as some fun for the boys. I did my best to find those brief moments where they were staying still for more then a second. We then made our way to the backyard. We captured some nice moments on the swing set, the picnic table and of course we spent some time with the chickens. Those were my favourite photos of the day.
Heather set up a nice bench with some fall decorations set up on her outdoor deck. We took advantage of that area and go some nice family photos there. The boys were getting more and more restless near the end of the session so we ended off in the front yard. I was able to get a few more photos of all the boys together and also a few of them wrestling and just letting loose. It was so nice to get out to that part of the city and see Heather and her family again. The boys definitely made me work for each photo but the it was well worth it as the photos turned out fantastic!
Heather + Family Portraits
Centennial Park was the venue for my latest portrait session. This time around Baby Sydney was the model. It took a while to get her out of her shell as she was a bit grumpy but with the use of some bubbles and some snacks we were able to get some really natural and fun photos. Of course it helped that she was very photogenic and cute to begin with so it was just a matter of getting her to smile! Thanks again to Heather and Keith for letting me take photos of little Sydney.

With the fall colours in full form, I travelled out to Cloud Lake Road for a fun filled family shoot. This time it was Heather and her family. It was a perfect location for some fall photos. They had a beautiful trail covered with leaves in their backyard and this is where we took most of the photos.

At first there was a bit of shyness from the kids but once they got going there was no stopping them. As always I had to do my best just to keep up with them. There were a few falls and tumbles but nothing would stop them from continuing to pose for the camera.
Thanks again to Heather and her wonderful family hiring me to take the photos. I had a great time and I’m extremely please how they turned out.
