U13 Fury Hockey Photos - Fort William First Nation - Sports Arena

One area of photography that has always piqued my interest is hockey. Luckily I was recently contacted by a friend who wanted to have some player portraits and action shots of her U13 Girls Hockey Team. I jumped at the chance to do so and I’m so glad I did.

We set up a little scene in the change room and had each player come in and do a pose of their choosing. Then we hit the ice and, after getting a large team photo, I stuck around to get a bunch of candid action shots of the girls doing their thing on the ice.

It was such a fun time and I’m looking forward to doing it again with a couple more teams next month!

Dirty Girls Mud Run - 2014

The second annual Dirty Girls Mud Run took place this past weekend and I was lucky enough to be a part of it. This was my first time and it was such a blast. Of course, since I'm a guy, I didn't run the course, but instead I photographed my girlfriend's team - The Sweaty Coconuts.

It was also their first time running the race and what better way to remember such an accomplishment then to document the race through photos. That's where I came in.

It was also their first time running the race and what better way to remember such an accomplishment then to document the race through photos. That's where I came in.

The day started at around 10:00 am. They were supposed to race at 10:40 am but there was a delay of about 1.5 hours. Once they finally took their place at the start line it was my time to capture some of those moments. I was able to immediately follow them to the first couple obstacles, then they were on their own for a while running through mud infested forest. I was told that there were some spots where the mud was up their waste!

So I made my way back to the main area and then walked to the opposite end of the course where more obstacles would eventually take place. I was fortunate to meet another photographer who was a veteran of the event, and he showed me where they would eventually come out.

Low and behold, I eventually saw the five of them at the top of the hill. They soon made there way through a water slide, a bear crawl through mud and then a run to the final few obstacles. These included an even long water slide, a tire climb and lastly, a teeter totter climb. And then the finish line.

All in all, it took them about 2 hours or so. But it wasn't about time, it was about fun, and they had a lot of it. So did I. There is talk of entering a team next year and if they do, I'll be wearing rubber boots next time around so I can get muddier myself.

Thanks to Anne, Cyrene, Cora, Mahogany and Laura for letting me follow them around in the mud for a couple hours!

Albany + Sophie + Ziggy Portraits

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Albany, Sophie and the newest addition to the family … Ziggy. He is quite possibly one of the cutest puppies I have ever met. Plus, he was quite the little model. The location for this very fun photo shoot was at a park just off Valley Street.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Albany, Sophie and the newest addition to the family … Ziggy. He is quite possibly one of the cutest puppies I have ever met. Plus, he was quite the little model. The location for this very fun photo shoot was at a park just off Valley Street.

It was my first time taking photos there, and I will definitely be using it again. The hour went by extremely fast because we were walking the entire time with random stops here and there when we saw an interesting spot. It really kept the photos spontaneous and fun. It also helped that both Albany and Sophie continually had suggestions for photos. You could say that everyone contributed in their own way. And lets not forget about Ziggy. He was the main reason we were out there on that beautiful Sunday evening. When he wasn't chasing after me he was sitting relatively still for a nice pose.

Overall it was one of my favourite sessions of the year. Thanks to the girls for being so perfect behind the camera!
