There was an afternoon session and an evening session. My wife and I went to both, and I was hired to capture a few photos of the event. We made sure to taste a nice array of wines and quickly decided which our favourites were.

Hopefully the same event takes place next year. It was a lot of fun walking around and enjoying the people and refreshing drinks.

BrewHa Craft Beer Festival 2019 - Thunder Bay

I have a lot of ‘favourite’ events throughout the year here in Thunder Bay, but I think BrewHa is up there as one of the best. Each year I’m more and more impressed with the vendors and also the people who attend. It’s such a chill and relaxed atmosphere and combine that with live music playing in the background by local bands, and you really can’t go wrong.

I have a lot of ‘favourite’ events throughout the year here in Thunder Bay, but I think the BrewHa Craft Beer Festival at Prince Arthur’s Landing is up there as one of the best. Each year I’m more and more impressed with the vendors and also the people who attend. It’s such a chill and relaxed atmosphere and combine that with live music playing in the background by local bands, and you really can’t go wrong.

Each year in August this event takes place and there are 3 sessions. This time around I made it to the first two, which took place on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. I most likely would have went to the Saturday evening session but I had a beautiful wedding in Murillo I photographed.

That was more than enough time to get lots of great photos for The Walleye and video as well. Speaking of video, you can view the short promo video I did for the event under my videos here on my website. Back to the photos, there were lots of them! I have long since gotten past my fear of approaching people in public and asking for their photos. That’s what happens when you photograph weddings for a living. You either get used to interacting with strangers or you are doomed! Almost everyone I asked was game for a photo.

I of course captured a ton of photos of the breweries in attendance too. It goes without saying that I sampled some beer too. You know, to get the ‘full experience’. I’m already looking forward to next years event, and I guess for now, I’ll have to pour my store bought beer in the little keep sake glasses handed out at the event, to make it feel like I’m still there.

7th Annual Bay + Algoma Busker's Festival - 2019

One of the premiere events, I think, of the summer, is the Busker’s Festival. It’s always a great time with so many performers and vendors coming out. Not to mention, it always brings out so many people from around the city. I didn’t get out as long as I would have liked this year because I had a wedding to photography, but I still got the chance to photograph a small portion of it. Along with the photos, I walked around for about 45 minutes on the Sunday and focused on capturing some video. That can be found below as well. I’m already looking forward to next years festival!

Festival of India 2019

Festival of India here in Thunder Bay has been going on for about 10 years I believe. I have made it to a few over the years and it’s always a great time. This year, I went for about 1 hour and came away with some memorable photos. The dancers that I did see were simply amazing. I would have been nice to stick around to see a few more but I had to go. Tomorrow, The Festival of Colours takes place at the Marina and I’m really hoping I can find the time to make it out. it’s quite the scene. Here are some highlights from this evening.

Kite Festival 2019 - Chippewa Park

Now that it’s summer, there are all kinds of events throughout the city. One of my favourites to go to has to be the Kite Festival out at Chippewa Park. It’s an annual event, where vendors show up, kites are flown and great times are had on the amusement rides at the park. Not to mention there are a host of other activities that take place during the day. The best part for me simply all the people.

Me, my wife Anne, our son Noah and his girlfriend Baylee made the trek out to the festival this year and we weren’t disappointed. The weather was great and there were indeed ton of people out there. We even managed to hop on the bumper cars at one point. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard. It was so much fun. Of course I brought my camera with me and captured as much of the event as I could.

You can view some of the highlights below. If you missed out this year, be sure to check it out next year if you can!

Festival of Colours 2018

Summers are usually pretty busy for me with weddings and portraits so I’m not always able to make it to some of the local events here in Thunder Bay. Luckily, this year I was free to check out the Festival of Colours down at the Thunder Bay Marina. It is honestly the one event I look forward to most out of the whole year. What’s not to like? You have dancing, colours, unlimited energy and lots of great music.

BrewHa Craft Beer Festival 2018 - Thunder Bay

It was that time of year again this past weekend, for one my favourite events of the year, the BrewHa Craft Beer Festival. Not only do I love going to it, I absolutely love photographing it. It's such a good time and everyone is so friendly. This year amazed me more then the last in that so many people were actually asking to have their photo taken. That made my job much easier. Regardless, anyone I approached was all for it anyway.

This year saw so many vendors just as every other year that I have went. I got to try a wide array of beers I would never have had a chance to. There is definitely a lot of talented brewers in the region, that's for sure.

Along with photography, I have been dabbling in videography as well. Below you can view a short little highlight video I created of the event. Hopefully it will give you an idea of just how much energy and excitement there was at this years event. I can't wait until the next one!

YLP Embracing Youth Festival - ONWA

ONWA is always hosting great events in and around the community and this time around they had a wonderful event right in their backyard called the YLP Embracing Youth Festival. It was a free festival and it had so many great artists and vendors. I was amazed at how many people showed up.

There was music, comedy, contests and of course dancing. All the kids that were there seemed to have a great time, along with everyone else. I'm really hoping they this again soon as I had a fantastic time capturing some of the event. Below you can see some of the highlights from the evening.

Festival of Colours 2017

Since I missed last years Festival of Colours, I really wanted to try and see it this time around. The whole weekend was super busy with photography and Sunday was no exception. Anne and I managed to still go check it out for about 20 minutes and I was able to capture a few good moments.

If it happens again next year, and I'm available, I will definitely spend more time and come a bit more prepared. Until then, these photos will have to do. :)

BrewHa Craft Beer Festival - 2017

BrewHa is one of those events, at least for me, that is on the top of my list for the summer. Luckily, I actually had some of the weekend free to attend and take photos. So, not only did a get to try some amazing beer with my wife Anne, but I also get to meet and photograph a lot of happy people.

For those that haven't been before, there are 3 'sessions' over the course of 2 days, the Friday and Saturday. The Walleye asked if I wanted to cover the event for them so I once again jumped at the opportunity. I did have a wedding on the Saturday but my wife Anne and I still managed to go Friday night and Saturday afternoon, for the first two sessions.

As soon as we arrived on the Friday around 7:30, they had Pipes and Drums of Thunder Bay performing in the middle of everyone. So I immediately got some photos of them. Then Anne and I walked around and explored the different vendors and got ourselves some beers to try out.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of 'hoppy' beer, if that is even a term, but almost every beer I tried were all good. I did manage to find some lighter beers and so did Anne. Amongst our beer tasting, I constantly looked for people to photograph and just overall great moments, which there were a lot of. They even had a band performing so I made sure to get some photos of them.

We pretty much stayed almost until closing time at 9:00pm and then headed downtown for one more drink. The good thing about BrewHa is that all the local bars and restaurants downtown participate and benefit from the increased activity. It was great seeing so many people out having fun.

I only had a bit of time on the Saturday so we headed down around 12:30.. We only managed to try a couple beers and I ate a very tasty Prospector burger. As usual, I was still able to capture some more photos of people in the crowd as well as some of the actual vendors, since it wasn't too busy when we were there. The night before, some of the lines were at least 30 people deep.

I can't wait until next years event and I'm sure both me and Anne will be once again going. Thank you to all the organizers and volunteers for putting on an amazing event and also to The Walleye for asking me to photograph it for them.

Bay + Algoma Buskers Festival

Seeing as how I missed last years Buskers Festival, I knew I had to make this time around. Luckily, I found the time today to do so. I managed to head down to Bay Street where the festival was taking place, and explore and take some photos for about 45 minutes. I keep telling myself not to complain about the hot weather, especially since all the rain we previously had, but man was it super hot out. With that being said, I sucked it up and snapped away.

I would have loved to have had a few hours to just walk around and take in all the entertainment but I only had a small window so I took advantage. I did catch a few really cool performances, one of which included plenty of fire and and another with some very skilled juggling. It's so amazing to see so much great talent make its way to Thunder Bay to perform.

Hopefully next year I get to go again and spend even more time at such a wonderful event. For now, these photos will have to do. Thanks for viewing!
