Institute For Canadian Citizenship Ceremony - Fort William Historical Park

This was my second year in a row photographing probably one of my favourite events of the year - the Institute for Canadian Citizenship Ceremony at Fort William Historical Park. For those of you who don't about this organization or event, I encourage to you head on over to their website where you can learn a lot more.

The event his year was the same as the last in that it started with some roundtable discussion. Everyone shared there story and asked any questions they may have regarding Canadian Citizenship. Then it was time for everyone to get sworn in and officially become a citizen of Canada. Just seeing all the smiles and excitement from all the attendees, made the whole event an easy one to photograph. I'm very much looking forward to next years ceremony if they have me back.

ONWA Family Portraits

Last week I had the opportunity, yet again, to photography some families over at ONWA. I've lost track how many times I have done this but each time I do, I have just as much fun as the last. This time around, there were only 4 families, but that just meant I was able to spend even more time with each family. The whole session was very relaxed and most of the time I just let the families interact, which helped create good genuine moments. I'm very much looking forward to the next session, and the opportunity to meet and photograph more families.

ONWA Family Portraits

It was that time of year again when I got the chance to photograph 5 wonderful families at ONWA. For those of you that haven't seen any of my previous sessions with ONWA, I'll give some quick info on what ONWA is. It's a not for profit organization that was established in 1971 to empower and support Aboriginal women and their families throughout the province of Ontario.

So, about 3 times a year, they hire me to photograph any families that want to get their portrait done. That way, they eventually get the hi res photos that they can then get printed. It's really a great cause and every family I have photographed up until this point has been a pleasure to work with. There are almost always kids involved to which makes it that much more fun.

Usually, the photos are done outside but this time around, the weather was a bit chilly so I set up a backdrop inside and we just had families stay inside. Once all my lighting and everything else was in place, the families came in one by one. I think everyone had a great time, especially the kids. The last family, actually chose to do their photos outside so that was a nice change. If I had my preference I would rather use natural light outdoors but the weather doesn't always cooperate.

The outdoor photos turned out just as nice as the indoor ones and had a completely different feel to it. Since it was just a mother and daughter combo, it was really easy and we were able to use a couple different spots.

I can't wait to see some new faces at the next session in the New Year. If this photoshoot was any indication, the next one will be just as fun.

My 15 Favourite Photos of 2014

Since it was such a great 2014 for me, I figured the best way to bring in the new year would be to select my favourite photos of this past year. I had such a wide range of clients that it was really hard to pick. There were some great events I was able to photograph, a whole bunch of portrait sessions and of course some truly wonderful weddings.

ONWA Family Portraits - Session 1

When I was first asked to photograph families for ONWA, I really didn't know what to expect. Mainly because I really didn't fully understand what ONWA was. Once I did a bit of research, I couldn't wait to get in front of all the families and start taking photos. Not only was it for a good cause but I knew it would end up being a lot of fun. Which it was.

To those of you who don't know what ONWA is, I suggest you check out there site

All in all there were 12 families. Some were bigger then others and some were simply mom and child. Regardless, they were all very easy going and great in front of the camera. Some of the kids needed to warm up to being in front of the camera, but once they did, the smiles and posing were non stop.

The 3 hours went by extremely quick, and I am already looking forward to the next photo session.
