I had the pleasure of capturing the recent RetroGraduate X2 Exhibition at Definitely Superior Art Gallery this past weekend. It was comprised of artworks from the Major Studio Graduates of 2019 and 2020 from a four year period of their program. A wide range of works including paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures and multimedia were on display. There were also two different DJ’s spinning unique mixes, fresh food provided by Red Lion Smokehouse and coffee by St. Paul Roastery!

It was such an amazing event, and I was so glad to be a part of it.

Chad + Family Portraits

My latest portrait session with Chad and his family took place on John Street Road at their home. It was a nice change to have a session at a family home, then one of the usual locations in town. We started inside their beautiful home for a mix of candid and posed photos by the fireplace. For the last half of the session we ventured outside. Once outside, it gave the kids a chance to really be themselves, which I loved!

Torin + Laurisa Portraits - Jumbo Gardens

I’ve been doing a lot of mini sessions at the Tree Farm and Centennial Park over the past couple months. So when Torin contacted me for some portraits with him and his girlfriend Laurisa, I suggested Jumbo Gardens. It’s a place I often take our dog Bea to walk around. I’ve been meaning to use it for a portrait session, and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity.

As with most sessions, both Torin and Laurisa said they weren’t the greatest at posing for the camera. That was just an outright lie, because they were so natural during the entire shoot. All I had to focus on was a little bit of direction and pressing the shutter button. :)

Laura + Family Portraits - Tree Farm

It was a little chilly, the rain was starting to come down, but that didn’t stop Laura and her family from pushing through the session at the Tree Farm this past weekend! I’m so glad they did, as the photos turned out amazing. I love shooting extended family sessions like this one.

It was such a relaxed and fun atmosphere, and because it was a larger family session, we just stayed in one area of the forest and got it done there. Sometimes, that’s all you need to do.

Jennifer + Family Portraits

It’s always nice when families book me for a session after getting a gift certificate from a previous client. That was exactly the case with Jennifer and her family this past weekend. They chose the field beside Confederation College and it was the perfect location. I never thought to use it before, but I think I will be doing so again in the near future.

Even though it was a 30 minute session, we came away with a lot of great photos!

Kelly + Family Portraits - Tree Farm

I had such a fun time capturing a mix of candid and posed photos of Kelly and her extended family at the Tree Farm this weekend. Anytime there are kids involved, I know there will be some cute moments. As you can see from the highlights, there were plenty!

Anika + Family Portraits - Tree Farm

I have photographed Anika and her family more than a few times over the years, and each time, I’m amazed at quickly Will and Abby are growing up. It’s an ongoing joke that Will has endless energy each session, and I just have to try to keep up with him. This time around, it was no exception. I wouldn’t have it any other way though!

As with all mini session, we didn’t linger to long at any one location, we just kept it spontaneous. It was a nice mix of candid and posed photos. I really wish this weather would last a few more weeks but I know that isn’t likely. Regardless, I’m so happy I got to spend some time with Anika, Aaron and the kids. They are alway so fun to capture!

Ange + Family Portraits - Tree Farm

I still can’t believe how nice out it was this past weekend. It honestly felt like spring. Even though it was extremely last minute, I managed to book a few mini sessions with families. It’s always nice meeting new families that I haven’t photographed before, and that was exactly the case with Ange and her family.

These mini sessions always go by so fast, but I always end up with so many great moments. Then again, it’s easy when you have such an easy going family to capture! Now, if only this warm weather would stay around a little bit longer, I can squeeze in a few more mini sessions.

Amy + Family Portraits - Centennial Park

Luckily winter hasn’t full arrived yet, so that meant it was a relatively warm session with Amy and her family at Centennial Park earlier this week. We did have grand plans of recreating photos of when the kids were much smaller but that didn’t quite work out. Her two youngest were quite shy and not particularly up for photos.

It was easy solution, we just went on with the show and did our best. Luckily I’m an expert at capturing candid photos. By the end of the session, they started to warm up to photos a bit more! In the end, the session didn’t go exactly as planned but that’s completely fine. We still ended up with plenty of great memories.

Jessica + Liam Portraits - Tree Farm

I had the pleasure of photographing Jessica and Liam’s wedding last year, which was such a great time. Fast forward to this past weekend, and I joined them for a portrait session at the Tree Farm. It was also an opportunity to announce and celebrate Jessica’s pregnancy.

They even brought a few props which makes these types of sessions even better. Since we had already did a wedding the previous year, the session felt very natural. They are so comfortable in front of the camera, and you can just see the love in every single photo.

I can’t wait to hopefully capture some photos once the newest addition to the family arrives!

Jacqueline + Jake Wedding

My last wedding of the year was such an amazing way to end the season. It was another intimate backyard ceremony, with close friends and relatives. As I mentioned before, if there is a bright side to the current restrictions, it’s that I get to do a lot more of these small weddings, which I absolutely love.

My last wedding of the year was such an amazing way to end the season. It was another intimate backyard ceremony, with close friends and relatives. As I mentioned before, if there is a bright side to the current restrictions, it’s that I get to do a lot more of these small weddings, which I absolutely love.

My short day with Jacqueline and Jake started at the Tree Farm, where we did all the formal portraits before the ceremony. You pretty much can’t go wrong with the Tree Farm, especially in winter. It obviously helped that both Jacqueline and Jake looked like movie stars. We ended up using a couple different locations within the tree farm for the portraits, and both resulted in gorgeous looking shots.

It was then off to the ceremony which took place in their parent’s backyard. The whole decor and everything about it was the perfect accent to Jake and Jaqueline. From the blankets and gloves on the chairs, to the two violinists and all the details in between, it was a story book setting. Luckily the weather was perfect too.

It helped that Jacqueline’s mother has been collecting fur coats from vintage stores over the years. All the bridesmaids and some of the family wore them throughout the day and it levelled up the photos that much more.

After the ceremony we spent a bit of time getting some family photos as well. Of course, throughout my entire time with them, I made sure to capture an endless amount of fleeting and candid moments. I do wish I had a few more weddings in these last couple months of the year! I guess I will just have to wait until my busy 2021 season. :)
