My Favourite 100 Wedding Photos of 2018

Once each wedding season is over I always look back and go through each and every one, and pick out my personal favourites. Not only is it great to see all the great moments I captured over the year, it also shows me where I succeeded and where I can also improve. If anything, it gets my mind thinking about the upcoming season and things I would love to accomplish. For now, these are but a few of my favourite highlights from the year. I feel truly blessed for all the amazing couples I was lucky enough to spend a day with. I’m very much looking forward to all the couples (and families) I get to meet this year too.

ONWA Family Portraits - Christmas

Earlier in the week I did one of my recurring portrait sessions at ONWA. This time around there were 4 families which ended up being plenty. It allowed a bit more time for each family which resulted in even more photos than usual. Seeing as how it was pretty cold out, we decided to just set up indoors. As much as I love how the outdoor photos turn out, it just made much more sense to do it inside, especially with the families with babies.

Luckily ONWA still had their backdrop up from their Poetry Night which I photographed as well. So I just had to worry about bringing some of my studio lights. Once I set up we were off the races. There were actually a few families I hadn’t photographed before so that’s always great to see. As usual, I think everyone had a lot of fun and shows in the photos. Even the little ones behaved for the most part. Although, it was tough at times propping them up on the chair and not having them slide down slowly! We made it work though.

I’m very much looking forward to the next session in the Spring, and I hope the weather is much warmer by then.

The Craft Revival - Holiday Edition 2018

Anyone who reads my blog posts will know that I try my best to get out and photograph events in and around Thunder Bay. The latest happening in Thunder Bay that I was very much looking forward to was the Craft Revival - Holiday Edition. Surprisingly, this was another event that I never had the chance to make it to before. I may be wrong, but I believe this was the 4 year it has taken place. I really wanted to go to the one that took pace earlier in the year but the timing just wasn’t right. Well, this time around my Anne and I made it out and we had a great time!

I really wanted to go to the one that took pace earlier in the year but the timing just wasn’t right. Well, this time around my Anne and I made it out and we had a great time!

This years holiday edition had around 19 venues and over 200 vendors which is amazing. We made to almost every venue. Pretty much every one we went to was jam packed with people too. It was so nice to see such a fantastic turnout. I even had some photographer friends selling some of their work. That is definitely something I will have to do in the near future. Now I just have to print some of my work…

I of course had my camera with me and took photos along the way. I packed extremely light and just brought my Fuji X100F. It’s the perfect walk around lens and not intimidating at all. Plus, it takes pretty darn good photos. The highlight of the day was probably our pitstop at Prime Gelato for an Affogato, which now just learned they offer. If you haven’t had it yet, it’s essentially espresso poured over a gelato of your choice. Simply superb. We plan on going every Saturday until the end of time now.

I think we were downtown for just over 2 hours and it went by so fast and we saw so much. It was a blast talking to lots of the vendors and seeing such talent. I’m amazed at how many artists live in this city. It is very inspiring and I am proud to call Thunder Bay home. I’m already looking forward to the next event this summer. Hopefully I can make it!

Hunger 2018

It’s almost Halloween and that means one of my favourite events of the year is here, Hunger 2018. It took place this past weekend, and as usual, it was such a great time. Admittedly I didn’t get out to cover it as much in previous years because I had a birthday party I was attending, but I still came away with a lot of great shots.

Definitely Superior Art Gallery always puts on such an amazing event. I can only imagine how much work goes into organizing all the venues and performances. All I have to do is show up and take photos of people in costumes. I have it easy.

Each year it seems to be better turnout out then the last too. I’m already looking forward to next years event. Scroll down to check out some of the highlights!

The event his year was the same as the last in that it started with some roundtable discussion. Everyone shared there story and asked any questions they may have regarding Canadian Citizenship. Then it was time for everyone to get sworn in and officially become a citizen of Canada. Just seeing all the smiles and excitement from all the attendees, made the whole event an easy one to photograph. I'm very much looking forward to next years ceremony if they have me back.

ONWA - She is Wise Conference - Chelsea Hotel Toronto

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of photographing an amazing event for ONWA, at the Chelsea Hotel in Toronto. The conference was called 'She is Wise in the Ways of Life'. It focused on ending violence against women and girls. Along with photographing the event I also helped design all a lot of the marketing for it, so I knew everything that was going on. With that being said, I was still anxious to see how it all turned out, and I couldn't have imagined a better event.

Each day consisted of various speakers within the indigenous community and a variety of workshops throughout the day. Even though the conference was specifically aimed at women, I was able to learn a lot during the 3 day conference. There were so many great moments throughout the week and I think I was able to capture quite a few of them. Not only were there laughs. but there was also some crying too. Everyone in attendance was there to support one another however needed, and it was very special experience.

The topic of ending violence against women is a very important one, and the She is Wise conference definitely helped bring a lot of awareness and education to the topic for all of those in attendance. I am so thankful I was able to cover such an important event but also that I was able to experience it as well. I look forward to continuing to work with ONWA on this subject and using my photography to help spread the word. If you would like to learn more about this issue, head on over to ONWA's website
