Josie + Dan Engagement - Tree Farm
Next month I have the pleasure of photographing Josie and Dan's Wedding but in the meantime, we got out and did their engagement session at the Tree Farm. I've said it many posts before this, but it is by far one of the prettiest locations in town. When you combine that with an amazing couple, you are pretty much guaranteed beautiful photos. That is exactly what we came away with. It also helped that they brought along their dog 'Buddy'. I just love photographing animals, especially dogs.

It was an hour session but we got a lot accomplished in that time. As with most of my sessions, it's just casual and natural. It was as if we were just going for a walk together and stopping along the way to take some photos. I of course directed Josie and Dan a bit, but otherwise I just let them interact which made things a bit more candid.
In the end, this session just made me that much more excited for the wedding next month. Be sure to check back in the coming months to see how those photos turned out!
Katelyn + Family Portraits - Vickers Park
This was my second family portrait session with Katelyn and her amazing family. This time around Courtney Lynn and Jake joined us as well. I hadn't seen them since I shot their wedding a couple years ago. We decided on Vickers Park this time around and it ended up being the perfect location. It had a nice mix of trees and shade and of course the park for the kids.

We started off around the trees and slowly made our way to the park at the end of the session. Otherwise, there probably wouldn't have been any hope of getting the kids to sit still. They were great in from of the camera though and they had lots of energy.
The 30 minute session went by so fast but I'm amazed at how many great photos I came away with. Of course it helps that the family I was photographing was a pleasure to capture. I can't wait until the next session!
ONWA Family Portraits
It was that time of year again to capture some family portraits at ONWA. I've lost count how many years it has been now that I have been doing this but I get super excited each and every time. Usually there are about 5-8 families that show up which is actually pretty good, but, this time around there were over 10 families and some of them were pretty big too. Suffice it to say, I had my work cut out for me but it just mean I was able to capture even more photos then usual.

My favourite part of these portrait sessions are the kids. They always bring such joy and energy that it's hard not to come away with some truly great expressions. Below you can see just a small sampling of some of my favourite photos. If I included them all, you would be scrolling down for ever. The Fall session can't come soon enough!
Eden + Chris Portraits - Current River Park
Back in 2015 I photographed Eden and Chris's wedding at Current River Park so it was only fitting that Eden suggested we do the portrait session there. This time around they had a new addition to the family and they also brought their dog as well. I had my hands full for sure but it ended up being such a fun and spontaneous session. The weather couldn't have been better and Eden and Chris where completely natural in front of the camera. I'm very much looking forward to a future session in the near future!

Jessica + Liam Engagement - Mission Marsh
Jessica and Liam's wedding isn't until next year but that doesn't mean we couldn't do an engagement session this summer, which is exactly what we did! The day before our shoot, Jessica decided they wanted to use Mission Marsh as the location instead of Centennial Park, and I couldn't have been happier. There is nothing wrong with Centennial Park but I have already had a few sessions this year over the past few weeks, so a new location was more then welcome.

As first, both Jessica and Liam were a bit nervous for the shoot but that quickly went away and they ended up being complete naturals in front of the camera. They took my direction well and were more then capable of doing their own thing as well, which provided a healthy dose of candid photography.
It helped that the weather held up and Mission Marsh is one of my favourite locations in town for portraits. It's a relatively small area but there are a lot of great spots to use if you know where to look.
Jessica and Liam also agreed to let me know film a little bit of video of them as well. This is new for me and something I have spend the last couple months developing my skills in. I didn't want to take up much of their time but we did set aside about 20 minutes at the end of the session. You can view that video below by click on the link. I really hope to do a lot more of these short cinematic videos in the near future. So stay tuned for that!
Thanks as always to Jessica and Liam for a very fun and intimate engagement session. I just love how the photos turned out.
Dany + Family Portraits - Centennial Park
I had an amazing 30 minute session with Dany and her family this past weekend at Centennial Park. Even though it was a short session I laughed so much during the entirety of it. Everyone had such a good time and I think that came through in the photos.

It also helped they everyone was very laid back and willing to do pretty much whatever I told them too. Plus, they had their own ideas on some of the photos as well. Those are my favourite type of sessions!
Check out the highlights below.
Amy + David + Jace at Centennial Park
Amy and David decided to do a spring portrait session this past weekend at Centennial Park and I really couldn't wait, for a couple reasons. The first one being Amy is pregnant expecting her second child, and the second one being I got to see how much more Jace had grown up.

This session was just a 30 minute one but we came away with a ton of great photos. Amy brought two cans on a string as a prop and it ended up producing some of my favourites from the session. It also helped that Jace was probably one of the calmest kids I have ever photographed. I felt like he could have done it all day!
Once the photo portion of the session was over, Amy and David were kind enough to let me shoot a very short video of them. This is something I want to start offering families and wedding clients so it was great to get a chance to do it. I could have easily spent 3 hours following them around but I didn't want to take up too much of their time. If you want to view the video, you can find it below, as well photos from the session as well.
Lauren + Kyle Family Portraits
My mini sessions always go by so fast, but they are always packed with so much fun. Such was the case with Lauren and Kyle and their family. Not only did they bring their new baby but they also brought their dog as well. It was the first time photographing a dog in the studio so that was great to do as well.

The session itself was very easy going and even though Lauren and Kyle had never really done a studio session before, they were complete naturals. I barely had to tell them what to do, which made the photos that much better. We even managed to get a couple photos of Tyler in his firefighters uniform!
I am so thankful I got to spend 30 minutes with Lauren and her beautiful family.
Julia Alton - Be Rare. Be You.
Last month, I had the pleasure of photographing Julia Alton, who is the Executive Director of the Canadian Fabry Association and a Fabry patient herself. Prior to the session, I had never even heard of Fabry disease, but that soon changed once I had the chance to talk with Julia.

The purpose of the shoot was to capture some photos for an upcoming campaign aimed to bring awareness to Fabry Disease. There was also a write up on Maclean's Canada website. I included that link at the end of this article. Along with the article on Maclean's, there was also a write up on the CBC website. You can find that article here, which features some of the photos I took.
Even though it was cold the day of the shoot, Julia was a pleasure to photograph. We ended up using Centennial Park as the venue and it turned out to be an excellent choice. One of the requirements of the session was to also show off the Fabry slogan, which is 'Be Rare. Be You'. Since this photo shoot, Julia has continued to work hard to educate and spread the word about this very serious disease.

Kim + Family Portrait Session
My recent session with Kim and her family got postponed a couple time due to this extreme weather. We really want to do some outdoor photos so each time we booked it, the weather just wasn't cooperating. Well, we finally decided to just do it and have fun in the process, otherwise we would be waiting until spring! Who knows how far away spring is too.

Well, we finally decided to just do it and have fun in the process, otherwise we would be waiting until spring! Who knows how far away spring is too.
Luckily, Kim has a very beautiful home, so even though it was still very cold out we spent just a bit of time outdoors and the rest of the time inside. Kim and her family were such an easy going family to photograph. They even posed outside without their jackets. I worked quick though so they didn't freeze too much. For the remainder of the time I just captured some real life moments.
To be honest, I much prefer documentary style photography so I was so happy with how many candid photos I ended up getting. It helped that Kim and her family were completely natural in front of the camera. I could have easily spent a couple hours with them but it was Super Bowl Sunday after all.
I can't wait to hopefully photograph Kim and her family again, when it's warmer out!
Darla + Family Portraits
This was my second session with Darla and her amazing family. It's always nice going into a family's home during the holidays and capturing some genuine moment. Especially when kids are involved, you never quite know what to expect. There was also a new addition to the family this year as you can see from the photos below.

I decided to do the group photos in front of the fireplace which made for the perfect backdrop. Aside from those posed photos, the rest of the session was simply walking around and getting some candid photos. We weren't able to get any outdoor photos this time around because of the cold weather, but there is talk of a summer session later this year, which I am very excited for.
Thanks as always to Darla and her family to inventing me into their home this holiday season!
Leah + Family Studio Portraits
It has been an extremely cold couple weeks here in Thunder Bay, and it doesn't look to be getting any warmer soon. That means outdoor portrait session are not really possible. Luckily, I now have an indoor photo studio so I don't have to rely solely on outdoor portraits. Leah and her family decided to have a mini-session with me a few days ago and it turned out to be very fun.

With my studio photography, the portraits are a bit more formal but I just love the look and feel of them. I'm not able to get as many candid photos as I would on location or outside but that is completely fine. It helped that Leah and everyone were very comfortable in front of the camera. Plus, I was still able to get a few spontaneous photos too.
The 30 minutes went by very quickly but we came away with a ton of natural looking photos. Remember, just because it's cold outside, it doesn't mean you still can't get wonderful portraits done inside!
