Wolfy's Pond Cup 2022
It’s been a couple years since the last time Wolfy’s Pond Cup took place, and I was so thankful it was on for this year. It is by far one my favourite events in Thunder Bay to photography. It was once again an amazing turnout. Even though it was at least -30 degrees Celsius, that didn’t stop everyone from making the event a huge success!

WineOH! Sessions
Since opening, I feel I have been at the Goods & Co. venue quite a few times. This past weekend, my wife Anne and I actually attended an amazing event there, called WineOH! Sessions, hosted by Breakwater Events are in Thunder Bay. It was our first time attending this specific event and we are so glad we did.

I actually asked if they needed photos of the event, and they did, so it was one of those rare occasions where I got to drink (a little) and photograph at the same time. I still can’t get over how many great wines and cheeses there were. It definitely opened our eyes to what is available out there. We will most definitely be checking out some of the local cheese shops to get our own.

Craft Revival 2021
It has taken quite a long time for things to get back to some kind of normal. Before COVID, we were spoiled with large events and gatherings. Fast forward to this past weekend, when Craft Revival (was revived) and took place once again. Even though it wasn’t as expansive as previous versions, it was still a huge success.

There were so many great vendors taking place and each venue was busy with people doing their holiday shopping. It felt so good to be out on a weekend, walking around and exploring and shopping. Hopefully this is the start of many more such events in the new year!
ONWA Poetry Night 2021
It’s been a couple years since the last ONWA Poetry Night, so I was very excited to be able to capture it once again. This year, it took place at The Chanterelle, which is one of the nicest locations in Thunder Bay, especially for an event like this.

From guest poets, to musical performance and of course some amazing food, the evening was an astounding success. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event.
ONWA's 50th Annual General Assembly - Best Western Plus Norwester Hotel
It’s been over 2 years since the last time I got the chance to attend and photograph ONWA's 50th Annual General Assembly. It’s such a great event and one that is filled with so many special moments.
It’s been over 2 years since the last time I got the chance to attend and photograph ONWA's 50th Annual General Assembly. It’s such a great event and one that is filled with so many special moments. From the election to the breakout rooms to all the interviews I was able to do, it was a packed a weekend. A new President and Vice President were appointed too, which was very exciting.
The highlight of the weekend was definitely the Sunday, where everyone made the trip out to out to the School of Indigenous Learning. It was a first for most people attending the conference, and I could tell that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Good + Co. Grand Opening
One of the most exciting openings in the Thunder Bay that I can remember took place recently. Part of the old Eaton’s Centre in downtown Port Arthur was converted into a huge space called Goods & Co. It hosts a whole bunch of local vendors and restaurants.
One of the most exciting openings in the Thunder Bay that I can remember took place recently. Part of the old Eaton’s Centre in downtown Port Arthur was converted into a huge space called Goods & Co. It hosts a whole bunch of local vendors and restaurants. Plus, it’s a space for private events to take place too. The amazing bar area overlooks the downtown core and is the perfect atmosphere for a drink when you need to unwind and hang out with friends.
I was asked to capture some of the grand opening. It was my first time in the finished new space, and I really couldn’t believe how it all turned out. The amount of work that went into making this possible, is beyond anything I could imagine. I’m just glad that it now exists!
Below are some highlights of the space, the people and of course all the wonderful products for sale.
Busking from the Backyard 2021
It feels like forever since I have had the opportunity to not only watch live music, but also photographic it. So as soon as I hear, Busking from the Backyard was once again hosting their second event, I jumped at the opportunity to attend at least one day.
It feels like forever since I have had the opportunity to not only watch live music, but also photographic it. So as soon as I hear, Busking from the Backyard was once again hosting their second event, I jumped at the opportunity to attend at least one day. This time around it was right in the city, in behind the The Sewing Place. Even though it was an unassuming spot, basically in the back alley, I think it worked out perfectly. It allowed for a lot of room for the performances, and also limited crowds to stop by and watch.
I really do hope live music and concerts keep on going for the rest of the year. If so, I’ll be sure to be at as many as I can make it out to!
DefSup RetroGraduate X2 Exhibition
I had the pleasure of capturing the recent RetroGraduate X2 Exhibition at Definitely Superior Art Gallery this past weekend. It was comprised of artworks from the Major Studio Graduates of 2019 and 2020 from a four year period of their program
I had the pleasure of capturing the recent RetroGraduate X2 Exhibition at Definitely Superior Art Gallery this past weekend. It was comprised of artworks from the Major Studio Graduates of 2019 and 2020 from a four year period of their program. A wide range of works including paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculptures and multimedia were on display. There were also two different DJ’s spinning unique mixes, fresh food provided by Red Lion Smokehouse and coffee by St. Paul Roastery!
It was such an amazing event, and I was so glad to be a part of it.
Busking from the Backyard
With almost all of the larger outdoor festivals and events being cancelled, I was super excited to hear an intimate backyard live stream being put on by The Bay Street Bastards. I knew I had to be a part of it, so I reached out to the organizer, Kontrol Media Studios to see if they need some coverage of the event. They said yes. :)

The event was over the span of two days, a Saturday and a Sunday. Each day saw approximately 5 performers, all of different genres. It was so great to see such amazing talent being able to perform, after what seems an eternity. I don’t know the exact numbers but I remember hearing over 500 people tuned in on the Saturday and the same if not more on the second day.
That just goest to show you how much support the local music scene has in the city of Thunder Bay. Not that that was ever in question if you look back on any previous outdoor events like the Bay and Algoma Buskers Festival. A huge shout out to the Bay Street Bastards for putting this whole thing on, and of course Kontrol Media Studios for doing the live stream.
My contribution is below. I captured a whole bunch of candid photos as well as video over the 2 days. There might still be one final video to come so check back to this page in the coming weeks.
Hopefully while things slowly return to normal, more of these live streams can be held, and even more local talent can perform!
Fat Guys Auto Parts - Virtual Car Show
I had the pleasure of helping out with an amazing event for Fat Guys Auto Parts. I was asked if I wanted to drive around all day, visiting peoples homes, and photographing their vintage cars. There was never any possibility that I would say no. After all, one of my favourite things to do is photograph cars of anytime, let along vintage ones. I have sorely missed the outdoor car shows that usually take place in the summer, so I was so excited to take part in this event.

Overall, I think I photographed about 23 cars in one day. As much fun as it was seeing all these amazing vehicles, it was just as much fun talking to the owners and learning some of the history and hearing some stories. I have realized that my dream job very well may be photographing cars for a living.

Bohemian Queen - Featuring Jeans ‘n Classics
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful event put on by the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. Michael Shotton and the Jeans ’n Classics band teamed up with the TBSO to rock you with this high-energy tribute to Freddie Mercury and Queen. It was a packed house, and when I wasn’t photographing the event, I was sitting back and taking in the amazing performance.

The highlight of the night for me was going backstage near the end of the concert to capture some moments from a completely different angle. if they ever come this way again, be sure to check them out as it is a one of a kind show.
